IKEA had a bunch of really nice fleece throws that fit a double bed for $3 a piece. Also, the dollar store in my town had fleece blankets that fit perfectly in a 42" deep crate for $1 a piece. You should check out stores like WalMart or Target and ask them if you can get a discount for buying so many blankets. Sometimes they can help you out :)

Check out places like Salvation Army, Goodwill, and church drives. Chances are that you can find decent blankets there for really cheap, or possibly free.
A good site to check out is freecycle. It's through yahoo groups and it's a free advertising thing for items that people are wanting to give away. You can also check to see if there's a buy-sell-trade thing for your area as well. You may also want to consider putting an ad in your local newspaper as well.
Hope this helps!

I check out our local thrift stores regularly (Goodwill, Salvation Army, whatever thrift stores are around) and buy good, used blankets and large towels for dogs in shelters.
I also buy them when they are on sale very cheaply at close out stores.
When Katrina devastated New Orleans , I managed to find a carload of them, most for a couple of dollars. You can do that easily, there are a lot of church thrift stores in addition to the larger national ones.
Just look regularly and stockpile them, then take them to the shelter.
Good luck, it's a nice thing to do for the animals.
By the way, I buy out the closeout stores stock of leashes, collars, dog dishes, treats, when they get them in too - the shelters can use them also.

If you have any dollar stores , like Dollar Tree, etc. You can buy small baby blankets there for a dollar each, [where I buy mine for my JRT, he loves blankets.]. They also sell dog/cat leashes, collars, dishes, chews and pet toys.
