There are plenty of answers for this. First, you need to change your eating habit. Second, you must workout at least 30 minutes per day. Third, you need a natural and risk free weight loss pill so you could lose 40 pounds within 6 months. Here, I know one:

it's all about finding what works for you. If you really want to lose weight and keep it off you need to change your eating/exercise habits. Find a diet you can actually stick to, not something that's totally unrealistic like the cabbage soup diet lol. Find an exercise program you like and enjoy so it's something you'll want to do and it's not a chore. Even walking is very good exercise. I've lost 60 lbs over the past 3 years. I had very unhealthy eating habits and NEVER exercised. So i started exercising (still ate what I wanted) and lost 10 lbs then I did weight watchers (so easy to stick to compared to all the other "diets" out there), started walking daily and lost another 25 lbs in a little under 3 months. Then I stopped focusing on "losing weight", and focused on adopting healthy eating/exercise habits. The other 25 came off without really trying. I definitely think it's possible to lose 40 lbs in 6 months. You can do it!!! Trust me, if I can, anyone can.

chew your food longer and use a smaller dinner plate, less room , less food, walking is the best way it will take off inches as well. it does not have to be speed walking just start and do a little more every day. Make a game out of it , see how many things you notice that you have been by before and never really seen.Try to think of food as a way to replenish your energy and not as a love. Put a picture of you on the fridge that isn't so flattering. If you live alone cloths all your curtains and just wear your undies and bra when you cook your dinner this will be the best reason not to over indulge. Love yourself and don't expect to look like a model the first week. The sure way is to offer to babysit for some little tykes and run after them a couple of days

You shouldn't aim for more than 2-3 pounds maximum per week. You may lose more than that, especially at first.
Start by evaluating your diet. Kepe a journal of what you are eating. You will start to see how much crap you are consuming. Eat leaner meats (skinless chicken, lean fish) and add more fruits and vegetables. Be aware of how your food is cooked. Fried foods, foods cooked in oil or butter and things with cream sauces pack on the calories. Switch to whole grain carbs- breads, pastas and tortillas even.
But to really lose INCHES, you gotta get moving. Simple things, like parking toward the end of the row at teh gorcery store, taking the stairs instead of the elevator and going for a 20 minute walk in teh evening make a huge difference. Eventually you can move on to things like weights and sit ups and the like- but start small.
Big results can be seen with minor changes.

It is possible, although you may need to talk to a doctor before trying to lose all that weight at once.
A big problem that Americans have is with sugar, so start by cutting out on sugars(especially sodas and candy and whatnot). I have heard you can lose up to 15 pounds a year just by cutting out on soda.
Stay away from fast food and eat a lot of fruits and veggies.
It is also imperative that you exercise(cardio is key). Get your heart rate up. Get a friend to walk with you or work out with you, that way you have support and can't back out.
Keep your head up, you can do it! Good luck! =)

I lost 40 pounds in 3 months. My diet was VERY strict:
No dairy (cow's or goat's milk)
No wheat
No gluten (oats, wheat, rye, barley, etc.)
No corn
No soy
No nuts
No potatoes
No sunflower, safflower or canola
etc.
I got a blood test to determine my food allergies, eliminated all 29, and the weight melted right off.

well, the only really healthy way to drop pounds is through "diet" and exercise. by diet, i don't mean starve youself by any means. just cut out any fast food you may eat and cut out soda as well. that alone could cut pounds. you really should only shoot for about a pound or two a week, because that is the healthiest and most reliable way to go about it.
as for exercising, walking is a great way to get started if you don't already work out and it's easy to fit into your schedule. if you can, take the opportunity to walk to school, the store, or the library instead of taking a car. another great way to burn calories without putting too much stress on your joins is by swimming. if you have the opportunity to go swimming (like if you belong to a gym) you should take advantage of that. it is really good exercise. and make sure you don't just focus on cardio. stretching and light weights are key to building strength and endurance.
good luck, i hope this helps :]

If you have a regular physician they should be able to help you out.
I used to be on adderal when I was younger and that takes the weight right off. none of the over the counter drugs work that well.
