doesnt anyone want to admit to being second-they cant all be first-----

I just picture the 3 of them cutting in line in front of one another. "No, it was me.." "No, I'm first!" "No, I am!"
Everyone knows that good guys finish last. ;)

That's an interesting observation - but in my city there are a couple of churches that aren't Firsts--there's a Second and Third Presbyterian, and a Third Baptist (I guess there must have been a Second Baptist at one time!).
I guess you might be right - after the First churches were founded, the churches that followed didn't want to be known as Second, Third, etc., so they chose other names.

The churches which call themselves first are usually the first church of their denomination in an area. No great pride in being second.

LOL! I've often wondered that myself. I guess the old Avis rental car commercial doesn't apply to churches (in case you are too young to remember, Hertz is always rated #1, so Avis started a campaign, "We try harder.")

Being second would be admitting that they were not founded by Jesus Christ.
Which means they made up their own religion.
