Rats are really cool animals and are easier to take care of.

Since I have had both at one time, I would go with a large rat. I had 4 pigs and 2 rats and I always handled the rats more. They were very friendly, NEVER once nibbled (the pigs did) and you could actually train them, they are smarter than you think. I would never have a pig again, but would definitely have large rats. They were like little dogs. I would make mazes for them and boy 'o' boy were they fun to watch!!

Guinea Pigs!!
They are soo adorable, i just got my first 2 yesterday, they are 10 weeks old and essentially a ball of fur lol, but if you are going to get guinea pigs, i suggest that you get 2 or more because they are social animals and they will get lonely if not housed so

Rats are smarter, sweeter, calmer, and less stinky. I have owned about 45 or so rats in my lifetime and I love the animals. Guinea pigs are high strung and hyper. I also have heard that they have really bad eyesight, which explains why they run from you. Do the right thing and get a rat. OR TWO!!
:-)

Rats are *much* more affectionate & interactive with you than guinea pigs. We love our guinea pig & he's pretty cuddly when he's in the mood to cuddle, but our rats are *always* in the mood to cuddle or play with us. Also, our guinea pig is usually more outgoing when food is involved, but we never need to bribe the rats to come out & play.

I personally love rats, as they're smaller and can be relaxing on your shoulder while you go shopping in the pet stores.

Upside to guinea pigs, is that they live longer. 6-8 yrs, while rats only live 2-3 yrs old (sometimes less).

i had a guinea pig when i was younger. they are very cute and it's alot of fun to feed them. Down side is that you need to clean up after them alot...every 2-3 days clean their cage....but totally worth having

Rats! They are silent (well, mostly) and aren't as "feed me, feed me, feed me!" as piggies are. They make excellent garbage disposals and you can supplement their diet with all sorts of wholesome stuff from your own food (tomato and pepper tops, carrots, chicken bones to gnaw, etc). They don't live as long though. My longest lived ratty was not quite 3 years old.
