Six months is perfect for the shots. Get all the vaccines that are available. You will save money in the long run. See if he can be neutered this early. Some vets will do this. The earlier, the better. It is also against the law to have an animal that you cannot show proof of yearly rabies vaccinations. You can get a ticket. Make him wear a collar with the rabies info on it. If he runs off, and goes to the pound, they can't reach you.

Absolutely! I have a new kitten myself. 5 months old. She has already had her distemper shots and deworming. They also advised me that I should get a blood test done to make sure she doesn't have Feline Aids which is common unfortunately in barnyard cats. I haven't had this done yet, I'm fretting the outcome, but it's better to know then not. They can also be declawed and fixed by the early age of 7 months.

He needs more than shots, he obviously needs his first distemper, he also should be tested for FIV and FELV, he should have his stool examined for worms, since basically ALL kittens are born with worms and if he's never been to the vet he is most likely full of worms. ALSO since he came from a barnyard, he most likely has fleas, take the kitten to the vet ASAP! (also have the vet check for ear mites, kittens tend to get those)

Before he gets vaccinations (which he absolutely should have) he needs to have blood drawn for FeLV and FIV tests. Once it's determined that he hasn't *already* contracted either of these diseases, then he can be vaccinated. And neutered. Don't forget to bring a stool sample so the vet can check for worms and administer the proper medication (many of the dewormers are worm-species specific, so you need to know what you're dealing with).
Lots of scritchies to your new kitty!

Your cat needs rabies shots and shots to prevent leukemia and FIV. I know there is a shot that covers a roundhouse of diseases. It just takes one stray sick cat to take out a neighborhood or barnyard full of healthy cats. Get the shots if you care for your cat.

Absolutely. Shots, check up (take a stool sample, they will check for worms), feline leukemia and feline immune virus vaccine .
There are really nasty life threatening viruses out there that only cats get. There aren't any cures either.
Have him/her nuetered or spayed, too.
Sounds like a great cat!

kittens always need shots, specially when they are young to prevent ailments. bainfield (usually in petsmart) have really good monthly plans that cover all their shots. this is usually cheaper than paying for the shots up front.
also due to the fact that he is a stray, it might be smart to get a comprehensive exam to check for any ailments (FHIV) and to make sure he is ok.
make sure to check with your local SPCA and Humane society for their plans also.
Good Luck!
also make sure to have your cat altered (fixed). this helps with territorial issues and the character development of the cat.

absolutely YES! Your kitty needs to get checked out to make sure everything is ok. he or she will need spayed/neutered and vaccinated. also, if you plan on letting your new kitty go outside make sure he/she gets a feline lukemia shot. it's pricey in the beginning, but after the initial visit, annual checkups only cost like $60

hi, i'd definitely get him vaccinated and wormed while he's still young. Then just get the shots every year after that and a worming tablet every 6 months.
regards,
ili
