If I were in that position and my wife were a True Christian, as I am... and it was a clear case of either-or... no other options medicaly... and it was befor the third trimester... then the choice I would make would be to save my Wife... If it were just within the third trimester i would say try to save the child by emergancy C-section if possable... but regardless... save the mother over the child... I am of the thinking that a mother who is of The True Christian Faith would opt to save the child out of mothers love... ...but my reasoning in this is that I am absolutly convinced that God takes the souls of the unborn who do not survive to birth... the child would be with God... this is a fathers decision only if the mother is unable to make it... I would save my wife... and I believe God would not concider it a wrong decision..... I also do not think God would concider it wrong to make the decision to save the child... if... the mother is of The Church... I would hope the mothers posistion would be concidered if it is know and she is not able to make the decision... If the parents are both of The Church then either choice wouold be in acourd with God's Word as I understand it.

I was not of The Church during either of my marriages... I would have made the decision to save my wife then as well... but for selfish reasons not related to my understanding now.

edit note: if as a Christian I were counceling a non believing couple in this situation... I would opt to save the mother... I would concider the child with God and the mother still able to have to oportunity to come to God... if the mother dies without coming to God she is lost for eternity... while her child will be in Heaven... better for both to have the chance of heaven...if she could come to God befor it is too late... then she would meet her child in Heaven later...

Whichever one survives is what God wants. I think it might be different in different cases. I don't think God would punish someone for making either choice but I have known of people actually saying... try to save both. Then they live with the outcome. I think my grandmother was in this situation with my mother. My grandfather said try to save both and left it at that. Lucky for everyone.... they both survived! (This is what I vaguely remember my mom telling me when I was pregnant- I would call for a refresher but it is 11:30pm here and I don't think my mom would appreciate it!)

A true God would save both.

god would probably want the child to live. After all children are closer to innocence humanity can reach.

God doesn't want either, however scriptural principles state a man should have these priorites in this order:

1. God
2. spouse
3. children
4 others

try to save both is the right thing to do and whichever one dies then its god who has that one. everythng happens for a reason.

God would want the man to decide, there's a reason for free will.

well i cannot say what God would want. but i would say it is completely circumstantial. the woman's health, age, how many kid's she has to take care of...as well as the baby's health.

(and i really like ver_jen's response....leave it in God's hands)

I think I would let it play out naturally. Whatever happened, would happen. I wouldn't interfere. I would pray and hope that things would some how work out that they both lived.
