We can't substitute God with the universe because they are completely different! We can't see the beginning or the end, but God can because He created the universe. The universe must be a result from someone Great and created for a purpose.
Plus just think about what the universe is made up of? If you consider (looking at space) most of it is made of other planets, stars and other matter... They have no brains to think or mouths to speak! The universe and everything in it is controlled by the Great and Mighty Ruler of the universe - God, the one who created all of it...

He created it...see Gen..God said...well you know the rest.
Universe, which one, there are many, he created them all.
Thats what I love about the space program, they have interviewed on tape the astronauts..they have said after coming back from space that indeed there is a God....Carl Sagen knows that now..billions and billions times over..the athiest he was, albeit great astronomer.
The earth, and everything else had a beginning and will have an end..like you and me.
Nothing that was created lives or goes on forever.
Only the Alpha and the Omega...God
The author of life...and The Bible is still a best seller.
Why has one man, from one small stable caused such a stir on earth, where as no other has..all because of truth.
There is an old saying, I rather die believing in God, and finding out there was not..than dying believing in no God and finding out there was...yikes!

God is the One Who created the Universe! So how can God be substituted with 'Universe'? Without God, the Universe itself will NOT exist! Do you get the point?
Who says the Universe has no beginning and no end?
It has a beginning......"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth..." The heavens, in plural, refers to the Universe, with its galaxies, stars, planets, Milky Way, etc..
And it has an end, too! Jesus says, "Heaven & earth will pass away but MY WORD will not pass away.."

There is only one God, people interpret God in different names and forms. God is the Origin and Destination of the Universe, present everywhere and is beyond life and death. All religions of world teach human way to get close to God. You give your Best, God will give thy Best. Ask God for help and forgive, God will help and forgive you. Pray; Worship and Thank God for everything. Remember wherever there is Happiness in Life, there will be Sorrow. To get Happiness, you must master Sorrow. For Success in Life; Believe in Self and God, Learn from Past, Concentrate in Present, Plan for Future, and remember ignorance gives failures. Have control on, be the master of, not the slave of your body, senses, and mind. Purpose of this Life is to Improve by Gaining and Sharing utmost Knowledge and Experience to differentiate and choose Best, Right, Good, Truth, God against Worst, Wrong, Bad, Untruth, Devil. Set your Desire level perfect or OK to be brave, no low to be coward, no high to be cruel. You have rights of Survival, Self Defence, and Freedom.

Precisely.. if it is possible for a deity to create something that is infinite like time and space (universe) then surely there is something higher than said being... therefor the creator has a creator i.e. god has a god.

God created the Universe. The saying is "I am the Alpha and the Omega" which was God saying he was the beginning and the end; He's the Creator who's been where, always has and always will be.

Because they are different still. There are many characteristics that God has that the universe does not.
EDIT:
Yes, God created the universe, so the universe did have a beginning.

Could we also say, that we are created in the image of the Universe?
I wonder....maybe there is more complexity to the Human Being, than we are aware of?
I think this is an excellent question.
Peace to you.

That is what you want to be,so you dont have to be accountable to a God,only accountable to the law of man, which God also instituted,by the way.
