If you want an answer, you might have to narrow the question down. You could fill a dictionary with the differences between the groups you just listed.

But I'll give it a try.

Pentecostals speak in tongues.
Adventists go to church on Saturdays.
Lutherans are like Catholics without Popes.
Baptists are Pentecostals who don't speak in tongues.

I saw this question before. I didn't answer it because its too lengthy. There are alot of differences between the groups you have named. The main difference between pentecostal and baptist is speaking in tongues. Lutherans and Presbyterians are somewhat similar. Adventists are different from them all in that they worship on Saturday not Sunday.

Flower Power is right in a way. They are just labels, but the main difference, is they have different "traditions". They also have different "styles" of practicing their faith. For example Pentecostals like to scream and shout. Baptists like to be organized and quiter. Lutherans are like baptists, but they have different traditions (I don't know what they are because i am not Lutheran). Prebyterian is the same thing different traditions. Baptists, Lutherans, and Presbyterians have th same style of worship. Soft, quiet and organized. Pentecostals have traditions like women can only wear skirts, and they can't wear make-up. And they like to scream and shout and breathe fire.

i would love to help you but I dont have an answer because I honestly dont know. Pentecostals feel like you must seek for the holy spirit and that you must speak in tongues to recieve the holy spirit. They also believe that when you are baptised in the name of Jesus Christ.Lutherans and Catholic are similar.Adventist believe the sabbath is on Saturday(I think)I absolutly know nothing about Presbyterians.Baptist beleive that the father, son, and holy spirit are one diety. Most baptist believe in backsliding and that you should be baptised. Most religions are groups of people that believe the same basics with a few small differences that dont matter anyway. If you believe in Jesus and have ask him to be your saviour and to forgive you of all your wrong doings .and...to live your life the very best you can,be baptised and by all means read your Bible and live by its words you will be fine.John 3 16 states "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life" just about sums it up the rest is up to you.

These groups differ on such issues as salvation, baptism, church structure, the nature of God (Oneness verses Trinitarian), and other areas. It's just too complex to go into in this medium.

Search Wikipedia and Google for detailed specifics, or post separate questions asking individual members of these dominations to state their cardinal beliefs so that you can compare.

I'll answer for the general independent Baptist tradition:

We believe:

- in one God, triune in nature, eternal and immaterial in being
- in Jesus Christ as the second member of the Trinity and the Son of God, who was sent to die for our sins
- in the depravity of man and his inability to earn salvation
- in a literal reading of the Genesis creation account
- in salvation by faith in the finished work of Christ in his death and resurrection
- in baptism as a symbol of the believer being buried and rising with Christ
- in communion as a symbol of the body and blood of the Lord, done in remembrance of Him
- in the "individual priesthood of the believer," meaning that man can go directly to God, and does not require an intermediary (such as the intercession of a priest)
- in a future return of Christ where He will claim His believers and set up an earthly kingdom that will last for 1000 years (unlike most Baptists, I'm post-trib rather than pre-trib).

That's a general summary of some of the more important points in the Baptist statement of faith.

the structures are different within the churches, but they believe the same things. Many of the rules they have are actually quite silly. I go to a presbyterian church, and they have silly rules like pastors who used to be at a certain church aren't allowed back on church grounds after they leave....

I myself am a pentecostal, who speaks in tongues and is filled with the Holy Ghost. We have similar beliefs than all of the other ones, but we function in the gifting of the Holy Ghost.

Because God gave His Word to men as a kind of puzzle.

God really was afraid that men would actually agree on His Word, so He made it so that there would be at least a thousand different Christian denominations that all use the same book, but disagree on how to interpret it.

That's how much God cares that you understand how to get to heaven.

the same as your family, different views, ways of looking at the same sunset..one sees a beautiful sun, the other the blue sun, the other, green, the other red, all in the sun, all setting, but at different altittudes and levels.
But not all, see the sun, cause clouds, and storms, and turbulence get in the way, obstructing view..this is satan, trying to twist and turn..follow the masters voice, and like any sheep, that knows his shepards voice..listen.
Mens labels are not found in the bible, just one sentence..after he picked he disciple, Follow me.
Tax collector, fisherman, prostitute, leper, leader of the church, small man, kings, warriors, roman centurion, blind, they all have their rank, but they all folllowed...that still small voice.
the diffferences we all have, what matters, is whos voice your listening too.
it is required of you, to search the book yourself..bless your reading..investigate, know the enemy, and know Jesus.
No God, no peace, Know God, and know Peace
