Even if you had $10,000 in your wallet (which is doubtful for nearly anybody, because why would you?) is it worth the risk of taking a bullet?
Even if you're an awesome martial artist, it only takes a split second to make the difference between life and death.
If this question was a matter of someone taking my wife hostage or not, I'd have a very different response which would certainly be to fight back, but that's not the question.

You give him your wallet and don't look directly at him and don't make any facial expressions or say anything. This is less apt to make him insecure, threatened, and think that you will not comply or that you are trying to remember his face so that you can recognize and identify him later. All of this will make him less apt to pull the trigger. To defend yourself against a weapon takes years of practice and most people don't develop their skill to that level. Secondly all the other factors like distance to you, what type of weapon it is, his size and yours all are factors and there are no guarantees. Your money is not worth any thing like your life or health is and money can be replaced. DoJ statictics indicate that in about half the robberies the shooter had made the determination before hand that he was going to shot someone irreguardless if they complied. This is why awareness and avoidance is so important and you can sometimes avoid these situations with a little extra caution and common sense and not become a victim to start with.

Here is a technique that works against a knife and may work against a gun but I wouldn't try it against a gun.
Forget the fancy involved moves take out your wallet toss it hard to the right and you run to the left or any direction not the same as the wallet .He wants your wallet he will go for the wallet .This is only if you think he is going to stab or shoot you anyway after he gets your wallet. And dont run in a straight line use cover cars lamp posts etc .

How much is your life worth? Having taught and been taught in a variety of Arts the first lesson was always respect your life and protect it well. Sometimes you have to just let it go!
Guns are a no no in defense and the only way you would tackle a gun would be (a) you're very stupid (b) you really thought that your life was in imminent danger.
One student asked me to show them how to 'just' knockout someone; another no no. If you tackle someone with a gun you must be prepared to use deadly force, I might add the same applies for bladed weapons. You might not get a second chance so once committed to defence you do not give your opponent one.
The gunman/woman may be prepared to kill for your wallet, are you?

I've got a better idea, go and buy a really cheap wallet and spare it in your wallet just in case a gunman approach,do not put any money in the wallet,if the man checks your wallet, while he is looking into the wallet, kick the gun away from his hand...

I give him my wallet and tell him to have a nice day. The wallet only contains 'things", they are worthless.
I can replace everything in it, i cannot replace my health or life.
Anyone that claims to be able to defend themselves against a gun with their empty hands is either delusional or fraudulent.

Give him your wallet. There are ways of disarming a gunman, however they are not without risk and require a lot of practice. One slip and you can be mortally wounded.

It would have to depend on the situation(i.e. how close he is, is he focused, does he plan to shoot me anyway) but 9 out of 10 times I would just hand him the wallet

Give him your wallet. There is only one time to defend against someone with a gun, thats when they are going to shoot you no matter what.
