My cookie dough seems a little tough & sticky.
It's a speacial made up recipe, it has: milk, flour, sugar, butter, & vanilla extract.
Is there anything i can put in it or do to it to make it more.... better?
I guess softer & more workable.
Like it said, it's kinda solid & sticky. I just made it & it's sitting in the fridge as i type. Just waiting on an answer!
Thanks

No they're not Sugar cookies.
It's a homemade recipe that usually comes out very good. This time, the dough seems slightly different.

add a bit more of a liquid and if it becomes too runny then add a little flour
sticky issue: sprinkle flour onto it and work it in

I'm curious. Did you start off with a shortbread recipe (flour, sugar, butter, vanilla extract ) and just decide to add some milk to make it better?
Hmmm. I'd roll that stuff into a log and chill it. Slice and bake a few rounds to see what happens?
Heck, even if your cookies turn out like rocks, you can make cookie crumbs out of them. Use those crumbs over ice cream, or make a cookie crumb pie crust.
Whatever happens, take heart. In the life of every cookie maker, there's at least one batch we'd just like to forget.

You can add a few drops of water at a time until it's more pliable. If you don't, it will crack when you roll it out. You probably should have used an egg in your dough. Most cookie recipes call for eggs.

I don't see any baking powder or baking soda to help the dough rise. Also, it might need some egg. I don't follow how it can be solid but also sticky unless you have too much sugar vs. flour in it.
Good luck.

Are you making sugar cookies, if so, I would just start over.
They won't taste good no matter what you do. If you don't want to, I would add more milk and the add a little bit of milk.

FIRST YOU NEED TO CREAM THE BUTTER AND THE SUGAR,THAT MEANS,ADD BUTTER AND SUGAR TO MIXING BOWL AND TURN ON AND MIX UNTIL LIGHT AND FLUFFY,ADD IN MILK AND VANILLA,MIX UNTIL WELL BLENDED,SCRAPE DOWN SIDES OF THE BOWL,THEN YOU WANT TO ADD IN THE FLOUR ABOUT 1/4CUP @ UNTIL ALL IT HAS BEEN INCORPORATED,SCRAPE DOWN SIDES AGAIN TO MAKE SURE FLOUR IS NO LONGER VISIBLE,REMOVE FROM BOWL,DIVIDE INTO TWO,WRAP IN PLASTIC WRAP,THEN REFRIGERATE FOR 2HRS,ROLL OUT,CUT,AND BAKE @325* 5-8 MINUTES,THAT SHOULD BE GOOD.
