My grandparents moved to America from ireland, and my mother is full Irish, but I am half Irish Catholic, and half African American. Am I eligible for citizenship in Ireland? Or would I not be considered "Irish enough" to be a citizen? Any help you guys could give me would be great.

If one of your grandparents is an Irish citizen but none of your parents were born in Ireland, you may become an Irish citizen. You will need to have your birth registered in the Foreign Births Register.

If you are entitled to register, your Irish citizenship is effective from the date of registration. The Irish citizenship of successive generations may be maintained in this way by each generation ensuring their registration in the Foreign Births Register before the birth of the next generation.

Hope it works out for you!

When you say your mother is "full Irish", do you mean she is an Irish citizen and holds an Irish passport?

If your mother is an Irish citizen, then you are too. However, if you are claiming citizenship through your grandparents, things are more complicated.

Basically, you need to register with the "Foreign Births Register" at the Irish embassy. You should contact them for advice.

Since your grandparents are Irish, you are eligible for citizenship. It doesn't matter what colour skin you have. Your mother is automatically an Irish citizen because her parents were born in Ireland, and you're entitled to citizenship too. You have to register on the Foreign Births Register. To do this, contact the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland:

If you have a birth certificate for a grandparet, then I think you stand a much better chance. But why don't you contact the Irish Embassy instead of putting up a question here? You're far more likely to get a proper answer.

If one of your parents or grandparents are irish you can play on our national sports teams. Our soccer team is brutal at the moment!!!So if you interested look it up!!!

And yeah you'll be able to get citizenship no problem.

PS being Catholic doesn't matter when it comes to citizenship.
