According to me Prayer is nothing but its only concentrating your mind. Hindus pray in front of idols of God, Christians in front of Mother Mary(idol) and similarly Muslims pray without any idols but symbol of half moon and a dazzling star above it. Whatever may be the symbols as per the religion, its all done just to concentrate their mind. That is why I believe whatever you do if you do in a concentrated way is the attainment of God or nearer to God. Someone has clearly said that WORK IS WORSHIP.

Do you know what prayer is? It is not begging God for this and that. The first thing we have to do is to get you beggars to quit begging until a little faith moves in your souls.....Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan.......

also....
"GOD has created human being for a purpose. HE deliberately alloted mankind with a fatal combinaton of desires and discretion. This created a vulnerable area of free will for mankind to perform within. We are expected to pursue our desires under the guidance of our discretion. It is the use of this free will that we will be tasked for. However, HE has destined situations for our life. HE loves HIS creations and always does things in our best interest. Human being has a tendency of doubting the will of GOD under the guilt of HIS own sins. Hence, prayer is our way of asking HIM to bless him with the best of things. Prayer is a bridge of bonding between GOD and HIS bondmen. Hence, our prayer should be that "O LORD! you always do what is in good interest of your creation. Give me the much needed strength and understanding to be content and happy with whatever you give me"..=)

"Prayer" means an earnest request or wish communicated to God for its fulfilemnt!
God is almighty, present in all places, all seeing and all knowing!
We have to imagine that we are standing before such a great and "infinite" power, which could not be epitomised in anty definite form, hence we have to concenntrate on the invisible God and humbly present ourpetition!
We can only ask, giving it is His concern!
"More things are wrought by prayers than the world drems of!"
Just as the space -craft takes off from the earh and flings into the outer space towards its destination, the sincere prayer spings from the bottom of the heart iand reaches the feet of God!
So also the curse of an agonised soul envelops the oppressor with such a coating that even God could not
penetrate through it and pardon his sins!

Christians do not pray in front of mother Mary, Catholics do, and there is a big difference. True believers pray to God through Jesus Christ. God, ( YHWH) is the only true living God, worshiped by Christians and Jews. God is a Spirit, and all those who worship Him must do so in Spirit and in truth. To come to Him in prayer, you must also come in Spirit and in truth. No idols, the second commandment is basically no idols. Please do not confuse Catholics with real true believers in Jesus. The Catholic religion is filled to the top with apostasy.

God be with you,
William, a bond-servant of Jesus

Sorry, I'm a Christian, and I don't pray in front of any Mother Mary idol, or any other idol, for that matter.

The world Prayer means to "ask" . ..

but our petitions are not the limitation of our prayer . ..

When the question "How do we pray?" was put to JESUS we find that JESUS answered with the OUR FATHER prayer . ..

Matthew 6:9 Thus therefore shall you pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our supersubstantial bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.

Prayer is therefore more generally talking to GOD. We are also instructed to "pray continually" which means walking the HOLY SPIRIT . .. this means continually meditating on the LAW OF GOD and eschewing all sin . . .

Thus prayer is also a frame of heart, that we are meditating on the law of the LORD, and having always praise for the LORD on our lips . .. keeping the commandments and doing the work of the LORD . ..

LOVE your neighbor as yourself . ..

::responsorial edit:: I'm Catholic and i think i explained some of the philosophy of why we pray the Rosary . . . which is also to honor our MOTHER . .. as we are united to the TRUE VINE by the HOLY EUCHARIST we also say MOTHER MARY IS OUR MOTHER . .. MOTHER MARY is the ARK of the NEW COVENANT in CHRIST'S BLOOD . ..

Prayer is a recognition of and surrender to a larger reality(GOD) from which we came here, nurtured here by Him every second(air, water, space and so on) and return to Him at the end.
Prayer is talking to God,Meditation is listening to God,do both!

Biblically speaking, prayer is letting your requests be made known unto God with thanksgiving.

Philippians 4:6

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;"

According to me, prayer means....

Accept God's supremacy,

Surrender to him,

consider him as best guide,

expect best results,

expect his mercy,

feel being bestowed by him,

feel being forgiven for sins.
