The same that keeps Christians from doing so.

Actually I don't think any major religions have a rule against going 5 miles over the speed limit. I don't think speed limits existed when religions were invented. This is just off the top of my head.

So, even though I'm not an atheist, I think it's safe to say that religion can't / shouldn't be the reason for any non-atheist to obey the speed limit.

So, the law being something we should all obey regardless of our faith, I'd say that maybe atheists obey laws based on morality, and police enforcement.

Also, I'm from NY, so just be aware, NO ONE obeys the speed limit here, regardless of religious belief.

Cops?

Personally, I'll go up to fifteen over on a daily basis (and more, if I'm feeling particularly reckless). What can I say? I'm a thrill seeker. And because I'm paranoid, I go the speed limit whenever I see any car relatively cop-ish. Still haven't gotten a ticket. ;)

Speeding is the worst aspect of my driving though.

Lets see now:

The knowledge that going over the speed limit will kill
the police
commonsense
etc.

You do not have to believe in God to realize that society needs to make rules to maintain order. I do not obey the speed limit (which I do not always do) because I am afraid some God will punish me.

LOL!!!!!

I set the cruise control on 9 miles over every time I take a trip, unless it is raining.

How about the cost of a speeding ticket?

Did you even think about this before you asked it, or is this just a joke to make christians look stupid?

Uh, the law maybe? The fact that I don't like going to jail or having to pay tickets... You know, the same things that keep you from speeding. Because it certainly isn't your god or his "word" that keeps you from speeding.

Which passage in your "good book" talks about speeding?

The fact that I don't have a driver's license and would never drive 5 miles below, let alone above the speed limit.

I hate cars.
