I quit over a year ago. I socialized with others who smoked. Smoking was outlawed at my place of work so that it was ridiculous to continue smoking. I used Chantix. It worked for me. I kept up my energy whereas I was no able to do this cold turkey or with another type of aid.

I tried to quit on a number of occasions but I didn't manage it. I think I had a fear of stopping. In the early stages of giving up I always noticed a change in my behavior that worried me. I would get snappy, my depression, self harm and anxiety would all get worse. In some respects I was convinced that smoking was one of the few things that kept me sane. Just over three months ago I managed to stop smoking though. I spoke to my doctor and CPN about help and support. I was offered a lot of help and with the encouragement of my house mates and friends I was able to get through that first week. After that I actually found it pretty easy. I feel completely myself again, only a little more secure in myself as I now know that I don't need to use smoking as a social crutch or a way to control my various issues. I am fine without it.

Gotta do what it takes if you really want to quit.First of all it will be hard..probally the hardest thing you ever did.Lifestyle change may have to happen. In other words there are some things you will have to give up.It's just like alcohol or drugs. Some things may be people you hang with or places you go.Also if your worried about gaining weight don't.If you have to snack on something when you crave a smoke do it ,Just try to keep it low fat .Your gonna gain weight After the first 2 months either way Just try to keep it to a minimum.Get enough sleep, you tend to be weaker willed when your tired. Most of all, Whats more important to you?How you present your self or your health. If you really wanna do it you will do what it takes. And remember it may get easier over time but it will never stop being hard. Finally you have to exercise to not only reduce stress but if you don't you will not stop gaining weight. To me it's just like losing a love one ,There's nothing you can do about it so do the best you can without it(In this case smoking).I know it sounds weird but that's the way I look at it. Good luck!!!

I quit cold turkey not too long ago. The best way for me to do it was to just do it. My motivation was my mother's passing from lung cancer. But it's difficult. I've quit successfully on products such as smoke away, just doing it cold turkey, and milk thistle. Just keep in mind the 3 day hump whenever you quit something ... it takes 3 days to emotionally stop... but for smoking expect yourself to feel like crap for even a month after. The best thing to do is to take it one day at a time, and wait for the chemicals to leave your body, but even afterwards yeah you still feel the cravings.

Ok now for your question *g* I'm not sure I'm the one to answer this as I'm not really social... the thing you'd worry about probably would be to what to do with your hands in a social setting. Well it helps me to play with straws in restaurants or even chew on them. It really gets tough when I have people around who are smoking. But I just breathe calmly, and realize I'm not going to die because I'm not smoking. Keep it in mind that it's toxic... it helps.

People think you are normally flirting too if you play with straws... I don't know if it's unacceptable or not thought :P Long sleeves can keep your hands busy also, that's is the important thing at first regarding smoking and behavior... keeping your hands and mouth busy. I bite my lip alot now.
