there is a myspace comment of a man mowing his lawn....and it says "I wish my lawn was Emo so it would cut itself"
IS it rude of me to be amused so much by it?

It's funny and problematic. It's not rude (mainly because emo is a stupid fad with no real cultural foundation besides what it swiped from other styles, e.g. where are the emo movies, artists and books?) but it may be insensitive.
Cutting is a serious psychological problem, known as self-injury, that requires therapy, behavior modification and maybe even medication. It's often a symptom of other, even more serious emotional or psychological problems.
What might come as a surprise to those corporate mall emo kids is that anyone, no matter their clothing style or music tastes, can be a cutter. Whether it comes from those within or outside of the fad, attributing a serious psychological problem to a style is wrong and irresponsible.
The whole "emo/cutting" thing is the same as the "cheerleader/eating disorder" syndrome: Some of them may have real eating disorders and others do it to fit in. So some emo kids think that they have to cut themselves to be "truly emo" (as if such a thing actually exists) and others just lie about it. Some of them are legitimate cutters and need real help but wearing tight jeans, having bad haircuts and listening to whiny, insipid music doesn't always indicate a real cutter.
So the joke is funny because it rips on emo but somewhat insensitive because there are lot of people, both emo and non-emo, who are struggling with self-injury and are in need of real professional help.

You can't help your feelings -- if you find it humorous, you do, rude or not. However, because humor often considered "politically incorrect" tend to be offensive or hurtful to many people, I'd suggest staying clear of that kind of humor and share other, less hurtful jokes.
I know people who have been in so much pain/so sick that they have hurt themselves, from cutting to suicide, and for a person who has lost a loved one to cutting or any self-injury, this kind of crap may not be funny at all. Others in a similar position might find some harsh enjoyment in the grimness of it all -- social workers, police officers, paramedics and other professionals who see a lot of human suffering and pain tend to develop a pretty brutal sense of humor as a defense/coping mechanism.
Ultimately, you can't help what you find funny, but realize that what make you laugh might hurt someone you care about. Humor is a powerful weapon, and sometimes, I don't think we respect it enough.

I mean it is somewhat rude...But then again, aren't most stereotypical/prejudiced/insulting jokes funny? Humans usually do find funny the "tabo" (hence all the perverted jokes). I personally find it amusing even if it is sad. So go ahead and be amused by it, it's not something you can really control; so long as you don't go around insulting "emos"

Rude, reason why is because.. "Emo" is no such word. That's a stereotype. I don't like stereotyping.. Some people "cut" and they're not "emo". They could dress nice, and "cut". I find that very offensive, even though I'm not "emo" or anything like that. I just don't like stereotypes.

No, i've seen that and I think it's hilarious too.

I feel for people who cut themselves because they can't seem to find another way to cope, but the whole emo thing is stupid. It just seems like kids cut themselves to fit in with that stereotype now. It's ok to laugh at those idiots.

Not really. I feel sorry for EMOs but they need help. And of course if they didn't start being EMOs in the first place we wouldn't have anything to feel bad about.

No, it can be found funny. It is not referring to the lawn cutting it's wrist or something. It means cutting the grass, therefore, I don't think I can be found offensive.

ha. I've never heard that one before. My personal favorite is:
What do Emo kids use as birth control?
Their personalities.
or:
How many emo kids does it take to change a light bulb?
Three. One to replace it, and two to write poems about how much they miss the old one.
