The Bible doesn't say. I have always assumed he died. Especially since Jesus asked someone to keep watch over his mother as if she were their mother. Mary was probably in her late teens when she and Joseph married. But Joseph was older than her. At least in his 20's. But he could have been older than that. We aren't told @ all. Therefore, when Jesus was crucified @ 33.5 yrs of age he could have been dead.

Joseph was much older then Mary. he had grown sons. Mary was a virgin that was in the temple to be a servant of God when she became pregnant with Jesus. Her family would have been dishonored by this but Joseph was visited by an angel of God and was told that Mary was still a virgin that she was carrying Gods son. He married her and never slept with her until after the conception. She was still a virgin when Jesus was born. Joseph might have stayed home when Mary followed her son but I think,'my opinion', that he had died. Because Jesus told John to take care of her when he was crusified.

Joseph never really bonded with the kid, after all he did suspect that young Jesus wasn't his biological child and he kinda resented it when Mary tried to make up some poppycock story about being visited by an angel, how daft did she think he is?
Then when Jesus chucked in his carpentry career without even finishing his apprenticeship and started wandering around like a hippy making up weird stuff-well,that was just the last straw! Couldn't be bothered with him after that.

Joseph died sometime after Jesus' 12th birthday. He was not mentioned in the Gospel during his preaching.

He was dead long before Jesus was crucified.
Tradition maintains that he was old man when Jesus was born, and that he died when Jesus was still a child.

That's a good question because I don't recall ever hearing of him other than to tell that he's not Jesus' father...........
