She moved in with us this year and draws social security but can we claim her as a dependant since she is disabled?

You can claim her if she meets the following tests:

1. She is a US citizen or resident of the US, Canada or Mexico.

2. You provide more than half of her support for the year.

3. She has less than $3,400 in gross income, excluding non-taxable Social Security.

4. She does not file a joint return with anyone unless it is to receive a refund of all taxes withheld.

Since she is a parent of one of you, she does not have to live with you for you to be able to claim her.

Yes, you need to file for an ITN through your accountant...call ahead for proper forms. My wife and I claimed my mother in law last year and it was quick and painless!
