If you adopt a child from foster care, the cost is very little. However, the cost can go up to $50,000 or more depending on age (the closer to infant, the more expensive), health (no current health issues, no health history issues like cancer, psychological problems, or poor prenatal care-more expensive), race ("whiter" is more expensive generally), and girls are often more expensive than boys. Adopting internationally can be very expensive especially when you factor in travel costs and staying in that country for weeks.

It really depends on where you would like to adopt from. When my husband and I was looking into adoption last year domestic adoption was a little over $10,000 and went up to about $40,000 from China. Those cost included any extra expenditures that may be needed like plane tickets. Your best bet is asking an adoption agency in your area to give you information.

From nothing, all the way up to 10s of thousands of dollars. There are many routes to adoption, it is up to you which is best for you.
We adopted through the foster care system. It cost us almost nothing. I have family who adopted through a private agency. It cost them $15K, and that was 14 years ago.
