You just say "Jesus come into my heart and I repent of my sins. I want you to be Lord and Savior and live my life for you". If you say this and mean it you are a Christian. Jesus will come into your heart and life and you will become a new person. Life will be different and you will experience a joy that you cannot feel without Him.

Good Question.
In the 4th Century, when the Christian Church first came out from underground, there was a lot of discussion and argument on what made a person a Christian.
A Church Council was called at Nicea, and they hammered out the Nicene Creed, which has been regarded as the definition of what Christians believe ever since.
We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, True God of True God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father by whom all things were made; who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead, whose kingdom shall have no end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And we believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
That's what Christians are supposed to believe. As for becoming one... well if anyone ever accomplishes that please let me know. Saying it is the easy part. IF (big IF there) you really believe it, then you should walk the walk as well as talk the talk (that's the hard part). This is where you get into the virtues, Bible reading, etc. However, being a Christian is about TRYING, failing, and trying again, not accomplishment. I don't think anyone is ever FULLY Christian... we all have our sins and our fialings and things we fall short on.
A good place to start though would be the ALPHA course. The ALPHA course http://alphana.org/ At an Alpha course people explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a day or weekend away.
It is low-key, friendly and fun – and is supported by all the main Christian denominations.
There will almost certainly be a course running near you. Why not take this opportunity to explore the meaning of life?
You can find a course by going here http://www.alphausa.org/courses/search.asp
and entering your zip code.
Good luck and God bless!

By trusting God. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to deliver us from our sin nature. A Christian will trust God to do what He said. Salvation is what He offered. A Christian will accept His offer, and live by trusting Him over any circumstance that would seem to deny His word.
To become a Christian, a person turn to God, away from his own ways, and accept that God has a better way. It starts with the heart, the desire to be at peace with God. And as one of the old name for God is: The Lord is my Peace. Jehovah Sholoam.

A Christian is someone who accepts Christ as his Saviour. A Christian believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, made man, who died on the cross for our sins, was resurrected from death and ascended into heaven.

Believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that He came to earth as the ultimate sacrifice for your sins. All of us are born into sin and we are in need of a savior. Jesus paid the price for our sins by being the ultimate sacrifice on the cross. I would suggest that you read the Gospel of John in the New Testament. Contact a local pastor and tell him of your concern--He will be glad to explain the way of salvation.

I would assume anyone who follows the rules and guidelines of the New Testament, and believes and has faith in it. Metaphorically or Literally.
Though even then you may still be considered Christian if you do not believe in ALL the rules in the New Testament.
Then you would be some form of Protestant Christian rather than catholic

it all starts with knowledge. Learning about God and his son Jesus. Learning the requirements outlined in the Bible on how you should be conducting your life. Excepting the value of Jesus' sacrifice, repent from your old ways and then dedicating your life to do God's will.
Christian means footstep follower of Christ.

You are a Christian when you follow the way of Jesus Christ. You become one when you accept him as your Lord and Savior, and truly believe it.

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." John 5:24
"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off— for all whom the Lord our God will call." With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 2:36-41

in my belief, its not how much money you give or how many times you go to church, or if you never make a mistake, or get mad, cause in gods eyes, nobody but him is perfect, if you have the faith and believe in your heart that gods all and ask him from your heart to forgive you, and to lead you from where youve been into the life of him, then it dont matter what nobody else thinks your his child and forever more you will be.. i come from a life of hate and drugs and never did nothing right, which i still mess up but in my heart and soul i know how the one and only creater is, thats all you need to know....
