Aaaand? He read a book and committed suicide. A girl I know of had a bad day at work and committed suicide. Should we ban going to work?

The boy committed suicide because he was in a bad place. The book had something to do with it.

You're kidding. Its the least suicidal themed book ever: some hobbits get a loner to go on an adventure, they travel with a crusty old wizard, they get some gold and meet a dragon, they all go home and drink some wicked strength ale. How the hell is that depressing?

There is no question here.

But if you are somehow implying that "The Hobbit" made him commit suicide then you are sadly mistaken. No one thing is enough to convince someone to take their own life. There must be an overwhelming amount of reasons and also prehaps depression. No book could alone convince someone to do that.

I love that book! I still read it again every now and then, I know it almost off by heart. Can't think why there would be a link between a youth suicide and the book...

He didn't commit suicide because he read the Hobbit.
He committed suicide because he was depressed.

People commit suicide after putting on their pants, too, does that mean that people commit suicide because of pants?

What else was going on in his life? Nobody committed suicide when I was his age, and we were all reading Tolkien.

I suspect there was a lot more going on in his life than one book of fiction.

Yup its the hobbits fault. Not the fact that the kid was broken at the factory.
