I suggest visiting www.kids-in-mind.com
It is an excellent source. The Motion Picture Association of America's ratings are so vague, but kids-in-mind is very exact. I highly recommend the site.
But by the ratings themselves,
-Strong Violence, language, drug content and brief nudity?
--I would say yes, but only if your 14-year-old is mature - if not, wait. Brief nudity is nothing to worry particularly about unless your son giggles every time he hears the word “sex.” A movie’s drug content shouldn't be an issue unless he is a drug addict. As far as language goes, he's probably heard it all, so unless he a consent swearer, this shouldn't be an issue.
-strong language, violence and disturbing content?
---Again, this is fine if he's mature.
-perverse drug content and some language
---It’s fine if he’s mature, QUITE mature in this case
-language and sexuality?
---This one is a no. When he turns 15, this movie would be permitable IF the movie is PG-13. There is a huge difference between PG-13 and R sexuality (between the significantly implied and the explicit).
-Violence and brief language?
---Nothing wrong with this if he’s mature
I would not let him watch the movie alone - I would view the film with him and talk with him about any persuasive material (like persuasive drug use).
The decision is ultimately yours, but I stand by my advice.
Use kids-in-mind.com!!!!

Would you let your 14 year old son watch a movie with the rating:
Answer yes or no, explain if you want
-Strong Violence, language, drug content and brief nudity?
NO
-strong language, violence and disturbing content
NO
-perverse drug content and some language
NO
-language and sexuallity
NO
-Violence and brief language
NO
I'm not naming the movies, so just by your best judgement
Now my son is 9 and I have a daughter that is now 24.
We've totally taken away the cable away from our son. It's gotten WAY TOO HARSH as you can already see. Of course he didn't like that fact that he coulnd't watch his shows that are full of nothing but violence. Listen in today's world YOU must do what's best for your son. We made the choice to monitor what he watches and I can say this...he's not near as "smart mouthed" as he used to be when he was watching regular tv. We have a large library of dvd's that he can choose from. YOU are the parent - you be the judge. Honestly I wouldn't let him watch anything except G and PG - NOT even PG-13. Also it really depends on the child. Is he mature for his age. (our son is not - however my daughter was).
Thanks for not looking the 'other' way on this subject. There are kids that have killed and have died from kids watching CRAP on TV and playing these horrific video games.
Be proud that you are an overly concerned parent. He'll thank you someday.
Merry Christmas!

It would depend on the theme of the movie, and the reasons for the "adult" behaviour being shown.
I don't mean it has to be some moral tale, but I'd let my kids watch something where there was strong language and violence _for good reason_ before I'd let them watch one where there was mild language and violence used as the way that the characters talked and behaved all the time.
Similarly for drug use. Characters use drugs and it's portrayed as being fun and cool? No way. Characters use drugs and it's portrayed as screwing them up, with long term consequences? Yes.

When I was 14 my parents didn't let me watch these movies, and I ended up watching them behind their backs, anyway. Good luck with being overly strict. I know for a fact that approach doesn't work- I am an 18 year old mother who was never allowed to go out with friends, watch MTV, or date.
... I'm not saying I would like my children watching these movies, BUT if you were to watch with them, you would be able to explain what all the violence, drugs, sex scenes, etc. are really about.

Of course I would let my kid watch these movies, but I think even he might be turned off if the content got too disturbing, and as far as drug content goes, I would be having "the talk" with him about the dangers of drugs after that kind of movie, like all responsible and conscientious parents should. I think he can handle brief nudity, if it's supposed to be "natural." LOL! I'd only let him watch actions and dramas and whatever comedy contains these things. I think horrors might give him nightmares.

I would only allow my 14 year old son to watch Violence and brief language - type of movies with me as long as the movie is based on a true story and not just there glorifying cursing and bloodshed in the name of excitment and entertainment. For instance, I might let him watch Schindler's List - but most certainly not some blood and guts and shooting movie that is only out there for the hey of it that doesn't teach them anything positive. Then, afterwards, we'd talk about the film and what we can learn from it instead of just leaving the interpretation up to my limited 14 year old's mind - I mean they would just move on with life and miss some really good illustrations of of life principles and good morals that he could apply in his own life.
