Iike, you can draw a square and then right the word JACK inside the square and the puzzle answer would turn out to be JACK IN THE BOX.

Help me!

Rebus puzzles.

The term "rebus" refers to the use of a pictogram to represent a syllabic sound. The people who said pictograph puzzles are close, but not exact. A pictograph is a symbol representing a concept, object, etc. A rebus uses the pictograph idea, but takes it to a different level by being a puzzle involving wordplay. Pictograph is a more generic term, encompassing hieroglyphics, charts, graphs... it's not referring to a puzzle.

Do a google search for rebus puzzles and you'll find a lot more of these kinds of puzzles than you will if you search under any other name for them. Even under a different name, they're still rebus puzzles. Other names for them are usually trademarked for whatever book, or website they're on, like BrainBats for example.
