i was trying to fix the HDMI thing . then it turned black. i turned it off and its still black. when i play a game it goes straight to the game and the screen wokrs. only the game not the home menu .
what do i do? is it broken? i could still play tho but the ghome screen is just black

It's probably a connection problem. You can always go back to fatctory settings. Turn off your PS3 and turn it back agin, but hold the power button for more than 5 secs (you'll hear a beep). You're back to original settings. Check your connections and plugs. Check your TV. For the future - never plug/unplug components of any system while even one of it's components is on. Don't try HDMI on regular TVs, though.

i bet you tried changing it to 1080p huh? but your tv couldnt handle that you shouldnt have turned it off you shouldve just pressed circle... now you have to go through the difficult task of trying to reset your ps3 with a blank screen which is pretty hard if you dont memorize where everything is...
try calling sony.... and if maybe you could expound on what you did to make the ps3 menu go black cuz i was just guessing...

Did you used to play on a regular Tv(non HD) without the HDMI cable? because if you did the ps3 is still outputing the signal through the other cable, you have to manually go in and change the output to HDMI instead of the red, white and yellow cables.

i would hold down the on/off button at the front for like 7 or 8 seconds it will restart your ps3 and it should not have this problem any more.
