He was sick with a bad cough with phlegm and an ear infection. He is still recovering from being sick. And ever since he was sick he does this weird jerking movement, like when he is in his exersaucer, he jerks his body back, and same when I hold him, its like he jerks his body and head backwards, he never wants to sit and he's ok when i stand him up but he does that weird jerking thing. Is this normal for babies to do or is this a sign of illness or condition?

And please do not answer me with things like "Ask your doctor" or "Get off Y!A and ask your doctor" because I already plan on doing that, I just want other parents opinions on this if it ever happened to them. Thanks.

My 11 month old sort of does what you're explaining, but only when she's really tired. I wouldn't call it a jerking thing, but it's more like she arches her back and throws her head back. Same??? Your baby might be really really tired, and he's just DONE. My daughter is super happy right until she's done, then she cries and fusses and she wants her bottle and to go to sleep. I hope this helps. Goodluck!

i think almost all kids do this...mine did...but don't encourage the behavior...if he's getting the attention from doing it..he'll continue..I just ignored mine when he did it..but of course I could see he was fine..but in a way he thought i wasn't paying attention...when he did it in my arms..I just calmly said that's a no no..you can get a boo boo...and I put him down...he did stop..but it can take time...just be patient...kids learn so many tricks in getting our attention...even it's not such good tricks like this...you have many more coming...:) good luck..and don't worry...you sound like an alert, attentive and concerned mom...and you're doing the right thing by taking him in to the doctor...at least you will have piece of mind in knowing your little man is just learning the ropes :)

It sounds like your baby is straightening his back because he knows it makes him harder to hold. All babies do this, so yes it's normal. Ask his doctor anyway, just in case I misunderstood what you meant.

My guess would be fluid in his ears, maybe.
