In WWI people were forced to serve in the military. Did people flee in this war? or in WWII?

So far most have been right, but you also forgot another war that most Americans forget KOREA, the draft was enacted on that one too, and a few headed over to Canada to join the rest.

Vietnam for sure. Even President Ford granted a limited amnesty for these guys, a few haven't come back.

WWII as well. Some religious groups even went to Mexico (after Canada) to avoid military service. Today, there are non-Spanish-speaking 20- and 30-somethings with Mexican passports who live in Canada because their parents avoided military service.

People refuse to serve in every war. Each generation thinks it is unique, but all people share the same hopes, fears, etc... The war most people think of when referring to people fleeing to Canada is the Vietnam War. My father was stationed at Fort Riley Kansas after returning from duty in the Korean War, his job was to guard deserters. So I think every war has those that refuse to fight for one reason or another.

What stands out most to me was Nam, and one of our past people who sat in the highest chair of the land didn't run to Canada. Done enough other crap though. Your call
