There are a couple of treatments available at the chemist to soften the wax which is probably causing the blockage. Otex or Cerumol ear drops both work well. Don't be tempted to use cotton buds as all you will do is push the wax in further and can damage the ear drum. These ear drops usually take a few days to work. If after a week, his ear is still blocked, make an appointment with the practice nurse at your GP surgery. They can irrigate the ear with machine which pulses warm water into the ear to remove the wax.

DO NOT hold your nose and blow. .you risk damaging your / bursting your ear drum IF you do it too hard.
maybe they have an ear infection? if it's painful it's not uncommon.. and no loud music thru headphones for a while
ear candles are no good either, simply because of the heat, they will damage the small hairs inside your ears that fall out naturally as you get older.
you can get a spray thing otrex or something from chemists, which will break down wax in the ears..
your not supposed to use cotton buds in your ears either.

There are a couple Over the Counter preperations that remove earwax, if that is what you are referring to. Then get you a "bulb" and have him wash the inside of his ears with the gentle water pressure the bulb creates. Dont try to remove the wax quickly, it will take a few days.

There are home remedies called Ear Candles. I'm not sure where they would sell them near you, but they get everything out of your ear and they are safe to use. Try google and maybe you will come up with something. Good luck!
