I made pizza and it didn't really rise.

Yeast is active and live. If it gets to hot or to cold it can die. Thus resulting in thing not rising. If you put a little in warm water and you see a change to it then it is fine if there is not change it is inactive.

Yes. Yeast definitely does expire. However, there are lots of reasons for it not to rise. For instance, it may not have been warm enough in your house. Check the expiration date on the packet or jar of yeast.

To test yeast, put a teaspoon of yeast in a glass of warm water. In five minutes, it should be foamy, possibly overflowing the glass. If not, you need to buy new yeast.
