Yes I think as far as financially we all have it better. However, the growing their own food was great! They were able to survive on their own. We all need to know how to grow a garden, raise our own food. If something happened and we couldn't get to a grocery store, how long could we survive. I think our parents know alot more on that subject. We depend on computers to do our thinking, we depend on a doctor when we have some simple thing wrong. Back then they knew who to treat themselves at home. Don't get me wrong thank god for the advancements the medical field have made..but what would we do if we couldn't get to a doc. I'd wish my grandparents were alive cause I'm sure they would know what to do. I think they worked harder back than but for example..a ho made quilt, now most of its made on a machine, what happened to good ole days when all the wives got together and gossiped while quilting? Families were closer back then. So yes they had it harder but they valued a dollar alot more than we do now, they appreciated things alot more. I wish some things didn't have to change!!

with out a doubt. My parents didn't have indoor plumbing or even electricity in their early years, Even when they married my father farmed with a pair of Belgium horses. My mother washed diapers in an old wringer washer for we 7 kids. Drying them on a cloths line was cool, especially at about 5 below 0 outside. I remember as a kid having to bring in a bushel of corn cobs and a chunk of coal as after school chores. That's what mother cooked with. I was raised with hot and cold running water (in the house) plenty to eat, and most importantly a LOT of love and compassion. I had plenty of choices and an education.
My son was born to microwave ovens, Central heat and air, computers, cable TV, automatic transmissions, and great medical science. But a lot of national pride was lost, perhaps with the separation of church and state?
My new grandson was born to cell phones, portable personal computers, huggies, disposable sippie cups?,and a world of high technology. I can only imagine what his world will be like.
The only thing that hasent changed is we just keep getting better at lieing, cheating ,stealing, and killing each other. Life has gotten Much easier, but I don't think it has gotten any better.

I'm an old guy so the question is still appropriate. I had it a lot easier than my parents. My mother had no education in this country, having only a sixth grade education in Italy when she had to go and work.. My father had a sixth grade education in the states but quit formal education to learn a trade as a Machinist - toolmaker in which he became an expert. he had several improvements to existing equipment which the company patented.

Yes, my Mother was waking up at 4:00 in the morning and milking cows when she was only 11. (She was driving all over the place when she was 11, I know it's illegal). Plus she did school and so much more on top of that too.

My Mom's mom died in a car accident when she was only 5 years old, and since her Dad worked for the railroad, she and her brother and sister had to live with their grandparents who were farmers without indoor plumbing.
Mom had to wear her older sister's hand me downs and they had to share a bed.
Gramma used a wringer washer, and their heater ran on coal.
Growing up poor caused my Mom to be very frugal, but she always made sure we had it better than she did.

no, with the world these days us kids cant just go off and have fun without the parents having to know exactly what were doing. when my mom was a kid she could take off for the day but now with cell phones you have your parents bugging to tell you were you arre all the time, things were much simpler back then. plus there were penny candy stores back then and now theres hardly a candy store at all

Of course it's a lot easier now-a-days. That was our parents' goal. To give their kids a better life. According to my parents, they had to walk to school uphill both ways in the snow.

My parents were idiots, so heck yeah!!! They set the bar real low so it was easy to get past them. The both of them together might clear $50,000/year. I hated living life in that situation so i worked my a$$ off and went to school to be a software engineer. With a 6 figure income i just shake my head at them and say what a couple of idiots....
