If you do research, America is starting to lead the way in "single mom's." This is not due to thier husbands dying in a car accident. It is due to women and men irrisponsibly opening thier legs (forgive spelling). We have Eastern and Western Europe beat in this catogory. Does this concern anyone but me? It almost seems normal in the to most people in the United States? Has anyone else noticed this?

P.S. Christians and non-christians: feel free to answer.

It's troubling when people get married with little or no preparation, and then wonder why they ended up getting divorced. Sometimes it's unavoidable, as with domestic violence, or finances get in the way. It's not quite as simple as you portray it. Life today is very complicated and stressful, for everyone, and this leads to discord in the family. At the other end, we are still seeing babies having babies (young teens) although they are a much smaller number than 20 years ago.

Right-wing abstinence only programs are NOT the total answer as this is shown not to work until part of a comprehensive program. Holland has a rather blase attitude toward sex and still has the lowest teen pregnancy rate in the developed world, because they educate.

I'm surprised you start out addressing the question to "Christians".
In any case, yes, it is a serious social problem. A lot of irresponsibility, to say the least.
I think children need two parents.
On the other hand, when both parents work and pick up the kids at the nursery just in time to put them to bed, that's like a no-parent family!

Well I am a Christian and I am also divorced raising a son by myself. My ex hubby is in the same state, but 6 hours away from us. It does seem like it's becoming the norm, but if you are responsible and are able to be a caring, loving provider, why not? I have been in a committed relationship for 6 years and we are very happy. It only concerns me when you see young girls wanting to have babies and of course couples that have children and abuse them or neglect them, then I worry.

I feel bad for the kids, but at least the numbers of teenage single moms are going down. Some choose to be single parents.

Yup. Shouldn't everone be concerned?

It is a societal problem, which takes away many kids ability to be kids. They are forced to grow up and make more adult decisions at an earlier age.

Single mothers tend to feel trapped and, at times, resentful. Often times, there is extreme financial hardship, and all suffer. NOt to mention, but I will, the fact that many kids end up being raised by non-family members,

--------------OR WORSE-------------

MANY KIDS ARE RAISED BY THE tv.

Fred g,

Interesting question, I know alot of single moms and they are quite happy with their lives. They really work hard and their kid make them feel special, it just shows that we have alot of strong women in this country.

Do you think it's because most of them come from some other country like Africa, where Christian values are not taught like they are here in America?

It's because we don't teach birth control as we should! As they do in other countries. Instead they teach abstinence which doesn't work.
