Next time, try the draft cans. They taste more like Guinness tastes from the tap. The regular bottles aren't as good, IMO.
I personally like draft Guinness, I'm not as fond of the bottles.

you must take into consideration that there is a technique to pouring guinness, as there is with all other stouts, in Ireland anyway. its called the two part pour, the first part you only fill the glass just over 3/4 of the way full and wait for it to settle then finish it off. also, never use a slim jim or any straight glass for a guinness, it insults it haha always use a glass with a widget. as for bottles guinness i wouldn't try it. its not too bad out of a can but the draught guinness here in Ireland is what we call mothers milk haha, i personally think Murphys Stout is nicer but i'd say its nearly impossible to get it in the states. anyways try again, its MOTHERS MILK I TELL YA

Ha! Seven years after the last comment was posted Guinness is just as flat, poured out of a can, as it was before. But that's okay, I didn't buy it to drink, I bought it for an Irish stew recipe... hopefully it will taste better diluted with chuck steak. It couldn't hurt it. Gnat's P*** I'd call it. Make mine a Spaten Optimator, bitte.

Guinness tastes dark and bitter. It tastes nice in cooking, it adds a very complex flavour... but make sure not to use too much or it will overwhelm your cooking. Guinness goes well with other foods with complex, bold flavours. Steak would be good.

The few times I drank beer in GB, I was really impressed, but a lot of beers just don't travel well. I never even met any one who drank Guinness, but mixed it half and half with beer. But I don't think it'll be as good as in the UK.

I agree that it would be better on tap. The can comes second, bottle third.
It isn't supposed to be flat, and I really hope you poured it into a glass...
