My daughter has been obsessed with death ever since she was three years old. Sometimes she freaks me out!

She plays "death" games.

She will have a friend lie down on the couch andshe will place flowers on her chest then say something nice about her life, then make her get up so that she can have a turn.

She put all of her stuffed animals in the bathtub with flowers ontop...mass grave.

I certainly wouldn't tell a three year old that Santa doesn't exist. Christmas is the most magical part of childhood and any child that has that magic taken away is cheated out of amazing and wonderful memories that last a lifetime.

Santa, his elves, sleigh and reindeer are imagination, love and magic. Those things never die.

Don't forget to track Santa's progress via NORAD.

It is normal for children to have a curiousity and to often ask questions about death. If it goes beyond that and you are worried you may want to get some professional answers.

On to your question, Santa is magic and therefore is immortal. HIs spirit lives in all of us. You may even want to find some information regarding the real santa St. Nicholas. He was a bishop and it was his generous spirit that started the gift giving traditions to symbolize God's gift to us!

I can remember my son talking a lot about death and heaven and it freaked me out too, but it was only normal curiosity!

My three-year-old daughter has seen us flush half a dozen fish. We just tell her they're sick and all pipes lead to the ocean like it says in Nemo. And they're going to the ocean with Nemo to get better.

Yet she's also killed spiders and flies and said, "I got 'em!" and she watched our dog kill a mouse. I think she understands the death thing, really. But when they're really young they don't get all of the ramifications. They're just trying to figure it out. I think that's pretty natural, I would worry more if she turns sixteen or twenty-seven and is still obsessed with death.

But Santa, no. She doesn't believe in Santa.

This sounds like a good time to talk to your child about heaven and the saints.

Santa Claus is commonly associated with St. Nicholas of Myra, in Lycia, in Asia Minor (now Turkey), a fourth century bishop in the Catholic Church.

In other words, Santa died about 1,500 years ago and now lives forever in heaven.

The most famous association is Clement Moore's poem, 'A Visit from St. Nicholas,' more commonly known as 'Twas the Night before Christmas!'

St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children.

One of the most famous stories associated with him is of a poor man in his church who had three daughters but no money for dowries. When the one was ready to marry, St. Nicholas put enough of his own money for her dowry in a sack and, in the middle of the night, tossed it into the home of the man. Then, as each of the other daughters came of age, he did it again.

Today, in some cultures, on December 6th, St. Nicholas leaves a bag of goodies on the doorstep; usually nuts & candies!

With love in Christ.
