Actually I would argue that Atheists do have a higher IQ on average than a Christian. Why? because Atheists by definition have comprehended Christianity et al. and have enough cognition to rationalize the absurdity of the Bible.

Go Atheists!

Catholics and those who attend Catholic schools score higher on SAT's, Catholic schools have better education than public schools. Now as fare as IQ you could be considered a genius but unless you have been given good education in the real world it wouldn't even matter what your IQ is, in fact there has been a study done which proves that even your SAT's scores don't even matter, what it comes down to into being excepted into a good college or university is the money.

Yes, I must say that I think the average IQs are different, and in favor of the atheists. Much of that is because a large proportion of atheists have been raised in some religion and then broken away. It takes a certain amount of mental courage, and therefore of intellectual capability, to do that. Therefore, I suspect those with significantly below average IQs are more satisfied with what they were taught as children than those with significantly above average IQs.

But what, exactly, is the significance of an AVERAGE in this regard? We are individuals, and there are some very intelligent people who are religious, including Christians. There are also some pretty dumb ones that are atheists. Have you met my sister?

no. The desire to find a meaning to life or what happens at death are intelligent questions. However, When you are young it is easy for people to brain wash even brilliant people int believing a certain answer. Some of the greatest scientists and minds of the past believed in god. Fear also drives people to make excuses against what their mind is telling them. The best and only way an aetheist could show a person their opinion would be to remove fear from the world. Good luck

No. There are some pretty intelligent Christians.
Try to compare a Seminary Th.D program with a University Ph.D program in a similar field (or any field). I think the average intelligent person-atheist or not, will be astonished at the difference in requirements.

Errr...Well, a whole lot of atheists I know don't even go into anything spiritual simply because it's cool not to nowadays and they're trying to be rebellious and such. So no, I'd say there's an equal amount of stupid people in both parties.

Also, how is it smarter to conclude that nothing is real unless you see it? Don't you ever question how the universe works or what consciousness is? (I'm not the religion I was brought up with, since that seems to mean something to you all.)

I used to think christians, or any people of faith were weak minded fools. I was wrong.

I understand that the head of the Human Genome Project, after doing plenty of work, became a believer in Christ (not personally confirmed). This does not prove anything, except that faith can come to anyone.

It would be interesting to learn if one's EQ (emotional quotient) tends to be higher for those who are active in their respective faiths. I would guess that involvement in ministries raises the EQ.

All IQ really means is how they measure your ability to consume and use knowledge. Religious belief or lack of it is really personal a opinion and nothing to do with IQ.

There is actually a direct correlation with Intelligence and Creative level and religiosity. There have been several studies done by religious conservatives which view Christians. Here is a video which shows some quotes by great intellectuals and various studies on religiosity vs. intelligence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_I5V9JPzMxY

I don't think it is a factor or can even be measured. Christians come in all races, genders, ages and social classes. It doesn't matter how high your IQ is, it's what's in your heart that matters....not your mind.
