There is a stigma still atttached to going for pyschiatric help. I personally think that seeking help from pyschiatrist is a good thing, especially if you are feeling depressed or over whelmed. You will find that some people agree and some disagree. Listen to what you think based on your own feelings.

This really depends on what your problem is.
If you feel you need to talk to someone and that's where you're insecure, go see one, and just have a nice conversation with them to lift your problem. But sometimes psychiatrists can be leaning a bit too much toward medication, because it seems that every psychiatrist I've ever seen seemed determined that I have a chemical imbalance that I need meds for, which I really don't believe is the problem.
You just do whatever you think will help you.

Well, it can be good or bad, good and bad, or just plain bad. In all honestly, though, after having seen one myself, they aren't anything like you see on The Sopranos or Frasier! The bad thing about shrinks is that many of them are trained to lump a person into a particular group or disorder, even though the person might not have a thing wrong with him or her. And many of them, because they are PhDs who deal with socially-oriented issues, are arrogant as hell. Unless something is really wrong, it would be wise to refrain from going to a shrink. A regular M.D. can prescribe the same meds, for a fraction of the fees that the shrinks charge.

It's great when you get help if you are suicidal or are suffering from mental illness. There are some people that seem to get "addicted" to going to the psychiatrist. I don't believe most people have to live the rest of their lives going to the Dr. unless they have serious mental illness.

it actully is really good for the simple fact of if you have alot of stress or problems you have beenb bundling up inside and if you feel like you have nobody else to go to they are the PERFECT person to go vent to. they are great listeners (better be if your paying them) and they give you there best advise. you dont have to worry if you can trust them or not. and they can help you set gols you want to achieve and cheer you on. what is better then that to improve your daily habits i love going to them, they help me unwind.

If you need psychiatric help it's the only way to get it. Mental illness is just that - illness. Illnesses require treatment.
