I cannot understand religion. What makes you believe in your chosen religion? Why that one out of a hundred of them? How can you believe in something just because it is written in a book? such theorys as the big bang seem to me to be more beliveable so why not to you?

Has anyone actually relised how much the Bible contradicts itself? And did you know that over the years the bible has meen changed to fit the belives of society? for example the bible used to promote "an eye for an eye" but i was changed because society saw this as wrong over the years so it know gives the impression that if you was to hurt someone because they hurt you then it would be wrong, you should forgive. Complete oposites!
Btw i never said that i believe in the big bang theory just that it is more beliveable than some body, some being, some thing made the world in 7 days.
And there is scientific eviedence that the bible is wrong in some aspects...for example we have evidence that the earth dates back to before "God" apparently created it.
And to all those ppl who say that "mirracles" have happened thanks to "God" i think your wrong. Miracles or what we call miracles happen because of the ppl around us. You just don't realise it.

if you could think that someone who loves you very much made you because He beleives you could make a deffierence in the world, wouldn't you? i can beleive in something "just because it is writen in a book" because it is not "just written in a book". it's written everywhere, because the Lord made everything. and if you beleive hard enough He will send you miracles, which is proof that is not "written in a book".

The big bang can be very spiritual when you try to really think about the concept of the event and where we are today. All the scientific explanations in the world are the true stories, and yet they still do not explain how the miracle of everything to the ends of the universe is so intricately designed to work the way it does - an inexplicable harmony of life and non life. I don't believe in a driver behind the wheel, I believe in the wheel, I don't need to know how it got here, I only need to know it is here and now. No book necessary just stand outside and realize how microscopic you are in the entire scope, but also how necessary and special - that's religion.

I support my religion not because it is what I have been taught from birth, but because it makes the most sense.
Things don't just happen. The universe isn't created just like that, from nothing, by chance. The earth and our solar system work so amazingly to sustain life, that it could not have happened without a reason.
When you look at a lot of religions, they claim that there are multiple Gods, or that someone is God, or try to define him by relating him to his creation. These ideas are hard to believe for me. I chose the religion that I found was the most peaceful, had all the answers straight from the book and not by different authors, and did not involve mysticism or some unfounded spiritual link with God based on rituals and meditation.
There is no proven science that does not find a place in Islam either.
P.S. i believe in the big bang.

EVERYBODY has a religion!
It is the core of facts that you believe in, and that fuel your motivations.
If you are an atheist this TOO is a belief -- you can not PROVE that God does NOT exist, so therefore you take this on faith. I think this is a difficult and demanding stand. Many more people are agnostics. I happen to be a Christian, abiet a completely non-dogmatic one.
For some people their belief includes believing not only in a God, but the God described in the Judeo-Christian heritage.
Most Christians are so because they are taught so from birth. However, as one matures one gains new experiences and hopefully achieves the ability of critically examining one's beliefs.
Many people struggle for years with their beliefs.
I came to examine my "religious" beliefs because I happen to be gay -- I could not understand how a loving God could make me gay and then condemn me for living as a gay person -- denying me the possibility of any intimacy in my life.
I was finally able to understand the difference between "religion" -- as taught by fallible people -- and faith. I now have faith in a loving God -- but none in "religion" as espoused by fallible men.
I believe in the efficacy and transcendence of love in our lives, I believe in the core message of Christianity.-- TRUE LOVE. Being loved and giving love in ALL our relationships and motivations is what is important.
If God is love then I believe in God.
I do NOT believe in something just because it is written in a "book." But I try to learn as much as possible -- and this includes learning about the Bible and just how it came into being -- so I can make my most informed choise.
My advice is twofold:
1) learn as much as possible about everything. -- try not to be close-minded.
2) Examine your motivations. The happiest people I know are those who value integrity and are trurly altruistic.
Have a good life

Christianity is a relationship with the God "who is there." It first starts with Him revealing Himself to you. Before that happens, you can't believe. I speak from personal experience, having been an agnostic until hearing the gospel (which I initially rejected) until the Holy Spirit started to get into my thoughts; eventually He showed me that I was a sinner, that Jesus was the remedy, and that I would go to Hell if I rejected Him. So, I asked him to cleanse me from my sins, and to come into my heart.
Trying to make a person believe in the existence of God, and the divinely-inspired nature of the Bible is impossible. All Christians can do is TELL people about Jesus, and live lives consistent with what we claim we believe. Conversion of a hardened heart is up to the Spirit.
Starting from a belief that God created all things, I can't convince myself to believe that random, beneficial mutations accumulating over eons of time are the cause of life. Maybe God started things with a "bang," but I don't believe that chance is the architect of all that I see that has developed subsequently.

I believe in my chosen religion because A.) It answers ALL of my questions in this life. B.) It lines up w/ the Word of God as it is written. I have studied many different religions on many different levels over the years. None of them add up. I don't believe in it just because its in a book. I believe in it because I've put it to the test. I've proven to myself that its true. There are scientific ideas and theories that are true. But that doesn't mean the Bible, God, etc. is false. They blend, not clash.

i know Islam is the religion. i don't understand how u CAN'T believe in god or the books sent down by him. i mean, where do you think you'll go after you die? when u die do think that's just the END of you? i believe in allah (swa) because the the earth is too perfect to be created from A BIG BANG. i mean a big bang makes a mess, not perfection like trees, soil, sky and humans. allah created the earth and therefore i believe there is an hereafter, when people die they eitha go to hell or heaven. does that help you to understand a little?

Sophie,
Evolution is just someone's idea of how life got here. There is no actual proof, just ideas & theories with too many holes in it.
The bible on the other hand proves itself. For a start, if everyone followed the principles in it we'd be living in a safer better world/society
I'm a realist - and I believe in God
I needed proof in order to do so.
I found it
There's not enough proof to believe in evolution as a fact
Like I said - too many holes...

God kicked Sataniel out of heaven. Sataniel tricked angels into coming with him and then set up his own kingdom on earth where he created people (not souls). He could not get those souls to sustain life because they had no soul so he took the light of God and put it in Woman so that she can bear children that will sustain life. Eve... (the giver of life) and Adam (male and female created he them and called their name Adam in the day when they were created -Genesis...)...
Sataniel (Satan) set himself up to look like God and even said (though shall have no other gods before me) which recognized that there were other gods... The tree of life (being knowledge) would have showed us that he was lying and that there was a Father Of All Light (the true God) where our souls really came from... so he forbed of Adam and Eve to eat of it or they will know good from evil (God from Sataniel).
The so called 'serpent' was one of the tricked angels that was with Satan that was trying to tell Adam and eve the truth...
Jesus was sent (God's ONLY begotten son) to tell us the truth about what happened but is why he spoke only in parables on the subject.... to speak freely would have only made people confused and un-trusting of him. Now the truth is out and only those who really seek the answers will know the truth.
Satan is indeed the Great Deceiver and oh how many have been deceived. The Spiritual and the Atheist alike are deceived. And only through Christ's truth and his words will you find you so called "LIFE". read the bible again with this in mind and things start to come more into focus. Listen to what Jesus was really saying .....
everyone has life ...what you seek is 'truth'... Only with that truth do you flail away from reincarnation and damnation on earth as a servant of Satan and return home to the true father of all light (who does not ask you to "SERVE HIM" but to just be with him)
'All these things I have done, you will do also, and greater things' -Jesus Christ

This is a question for non-religious people as well.
I accept science as I accept the Bible as each is proved by the other.
You seem to assume there are contradictions but if there is no reason for why we are all here, you should be prepared to prove it.
As I read the Bible I don't close my eyes to reality and to the real world, it is accepted because it proves itself.

I believe in nothing with out some presentable evidence of its authenticity. My religion believes in science. In fact it goes as far as to say that science can eventually prove all things of a spiritual nature. Its only a matter of time. I have had things happen in my religion that cannot be coincidence. There for I know it to be real.
