There seem to be a lot of conditions placed on his "unconditional love"...

You thinking of the song, "Just as I Am...?" That's the way Christianity is. They accept you as you are, but "as you are" in the context of recognizing your sinfulness and declaring that you will strive to live differently. It means you don't need to "measure up" in order to receive Christ. They say, "You don't clean up before taking a bath," so you shouldn't try to "be good" before coming to Christ. However, once you're in, there's no end to the changes you will be required to make, and you'll never measure up. If you are trying to point out that there's no place in the Bible that says we can be ourselves and still be God's children, it's not there. It's a cult.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Muslims do not have a love relationship with God the way Christians do. He is not their loving father, but instead he is a judge. Example; Christians say "I love God" and Muslims say "God is great".

It isn't so much that He "accepts" you as you are. It's that He has "chosen" you despite what you are.
John 13:18 "I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture: 'He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'
Ephesians 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
Ephesians 2:1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressionsit is by grace you have been saved.
Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

It doesn't. You must be better, and repent. What verse is this, the whole gospel, front to back. God may love us in Romans, but he definitely wants us to be better in everything.

Jesus will accept anyone to come to Him so they can acknowledge that they have sinned against God (in other words, they are sinners) and deserve punishment (eternal separation from God in Hell) because of this, but acknowledge and truly believe that He has made atonement (fully paid) for their sins on their behalf, rose again from the dead; to ask God to forgive them and to come into their lives and give them His Holy Spirit to live within them forever.
Sin cannot go into Heaven, that's why some people will go to Hell, because they'll never accept what Jesus did for them on the cross, and therefore never receive the salvation that Jesus offers them.
Jesus allows all to come and ask the above, but Jesus sees what you can be, the way that you were designed to be, when God created you.
When God gives you His Holy Spirit to come and live inside of you... (all genuine Christians have his Holy Spirit living inside them (this is God Himself) - this is what sets us apart from those who just label themselves Christians, but who haven't received Jesus as their Saviour in their hearts)...one of the things that the Holy Spirit does is sanctify us (change us) ready for entering Heaven. The Holy Spirit changes us into the likeness of Jesus. Jesus was and is perfect, and we are not.
Jesus accepts anyone to come to Him to receive salvation, but then Jesus does need us to willing work with Him to do God's will for our lives. We must willingly serve and worship God, and get to know God by reading the Bible and praying. God created us to be in a relationship with Him; and this is one thing that changes when we become a Christian....not only are all our sins forgiven, but we are, what the Bible calls 'reconciled to God', this means the separation between us and God, caused by our sins (which God cannot have a part of), is removed, and we are bought together with God with nothing in the way of us accessing God, to talk to Him, receive everything that salvation brings; most of the promises and truth in the Bible is referring to a Christian, so all these then become applicable to you. Another thing that changes is that we become 'a child of God', we then belong to God; previously to becoming a Christian, we did not belong to God, and weren't 'a child of God'; yes, He created us, but we had not made Him our Father, but spent our lives walking away from Him, and sinning against Him. To become a Christian in the first place, you would of had to make a decision to come to God, and acknowledge some of God's truth about yourselves (a sinner who deserves to be punished, by being eternally separated from God), and about God / Jesus (that He fully paid for your sins when He died on the cross, that He rose again from the dead (showing Himself to be God), so that you can instead go and live eternally in Heaven with Him (God / Jesus). So there is a huge turnaround in decision there...going from rebelling against and ignoring / walking away from God, to deciding that you wish to come to God and received forgiveness so that you can spend eternity with Him in Heaven).
In terms of 'changing'. Many make the mistake of trying to change themselves so that they are good enough to get into Heaven (either when they are not a Christian, or when they are). However, firstly, when you are NOT a Christian, 'being good' won't get us into Heaven, as only through Jesus can we get to Heaven (afterall, He is the one know has paid the full price of our sins, and the Bible says that Jesus is the only name given to us, in which we just be saved. God chose Jesus for this job. Jesus says that He is the way the truth and the life and that no one comes to the a father except through Him). Secondly, when you ARE a Christian, trying to 'be good' still won't get you into Heaven.
You see, Jesus came to offer us the gift of salvation, for us to decide whether to accept or not. The Bible says that salvation is through faith alone, not by works. Here are some examples: (for those who don't know...righteousness and being justified are synonymous with the topic of salvation...thus those who are justified and righteous before God are those who will be saved)...
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
"21But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,i through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
27Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. 28For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law." (Romans 3:21-28)

The closest I can come up with is the woman who was about to be stoned for adultery; Jesus asked her if any man condemned her--after her accusers had left--and she replied, "No man, lord". He then said to her "neither do I condemn thee; go thy way and sin no more."
Oblique reference, I know.
