My 2/3 yo Pedigree Rottweiler ( uncastrated) about has just started bleeding few drops from his penis. Otherwise he seems bit lathargic, has had running nose last day, his nose warmer than usual.. took him out earlier for walk and wasnt as bouncy as he normally is but think it is as he is tired. He weighs between 60-70kg and is fed around 700 g of dry food per day. He is kept indoors with me. Only had him just over a week. The previous owner promised me he had no health problems and had all vaccinations/wormed up to date but has yet to send the papers to me. Really concerned for his welfare. Any advise would be greatly valued. Kind regards. Alicia

I believe a vet visit is unavoidable. When it comes to urogenital problems in an in tact male there can be several concerns.
Prostatitis
Prostatitic abscess
Stones
Urinary tract infection
Bacterial infection
are just a few serious possibilities.
Your dog is young for prostatic disease but it must be ruled out by a veterinarian..
I recently observed a case of prostatitis in a 2 yr old german shepherd who presented for lethargy and straining to eliminate.
Six weeks post castration the prostrate was back to normal and the dog recovered as expected
Prostatitis is inevitable in an intact male.
It just typically happens in older dogs.
The dog likely needs antibiotics in order to resolve this problem.
If treatment is delayed the more difficult it is to treat urogentital problems.
Be prepared to neuter your pet to prevent recurrences.

I am not sure about the bleeding but the other symptoms look like kennel cough or even pneumonia.

My female dog had all those symptoms coupled with an unusual high temperature (and obviously she had not penis problems) and it ended up being distemper.

I would take it to the vet ASAP, it sounds like something really bad. When my dog got sick we thought she had a cold and the owner of the rescue org. we got her from assured us she was ok. A few days later she got worse, wouldn't even get up from her bed. We almost waited too long. Doctor said if we would have waited one more day she would have died.

our dog had that exact same problem. Hes a 60 lb bulldog, so when that happening we were in a state of " what the heck".
we took him to the vet and it turns out that he basicly had a scratch or a nick on his penis so whenever he got " excited" and blood rushed "there" thats when he'd start to bleed. the vet didnt do too much, he put a little ointment on it to keep it clean and a liquid bandage to keep it protected. it was moreless a relief to find out what it was.

that may be the case for your dog, but i would still take him to the vet of course. if its just a few drops i dont think it would be very harmful, ( our dog bled alot more then a few drops, but again it was more of a relief when we found out what was wrong with him).
hopefully it works out!

Intact dogs bleed when their prostate enlarges; yours seems young to have this problem but, hey, stranger things have happened. Or he could have an infection or a few other things. Only your vet can diagnose it.

Sounds like he is sick. Probably having him neutered is a good idea. Take him to his vet and have him checked out.
Cancer is prevalent amoung large dogs who are not neutered.
