Call your insurance company and ask. Most of the time it's only a few days (3) before you have to start paying for the rental yourself, but only your policy will tell you how long you can keep the rental at there expense.

Once they have settled with you and decided it is a write off, and paid you full market value, generally within a few days of that settlement they will no longer pay for the rental. It varies by company policy, so ask your agent.

you go collect your money from the insurance. you sign off the title to them. and they give you a check and you go cash it. I had a 1995 Eclipse that got totalled.Happened in august and i didn't get a new car until september. just make sure you listen to what they say and follow the directions
