1,800 cals is not a lot for a male teen and especially not if you are trying to gain weight. increasing your level of exercise and training harder in the gym will increase your appetite.
to gain weight multiply your BW x 20 (this is a quick and dirty method). for you this would be 3,200 calories. to make eating this many cals much easier I would recommend an isocaloric diet. this means consuming equal amounts of proteins/carbs/fats @ 33% each.
265 grams of protein daily
265 grams of carbs daily
117 grams of fats

Protein shakes can be helpful to add extra calories, but it is best (and cheaper) to just eat a lot of food. Chicken, eggs, beef, etc, need to be staples. Eating 1800 calories per day is not going to make you bigger. If you're in high school, and you're really skinny (which it sounds like you are, no offense) then you could easily double the amount of calories you are eating and be fine. Just remember to work out hard, or else you're just going to get fatter, not stronger.

Yes, in order to gain muscle mass you need to eat a lot of food. Think of it this way, your body can only build muscle from what you eat, so if you want to gain 10 or 20 pounds of muscle you need to eat that much protein.
In general, you need to consume 3,500 extra calories to gain one pound of muscle. The best way to do this is to eat six small meals everyday. Make sure your meals have protein (preferably chicken or fish), carbohydrates (rice is great), and are low in saturated fat. Also, protein shakes are very helpful, the best time to take a protein shake is right after lifting weights.
If you lift weights four days a week and play football you won't gain fat. When you're lifting keep your reps in the 8-10 range to make the most gains, and do lots of compound exercises.
I'm 6'1 and have used this method to go from 140 to 186 over the course of a year and still have 8% body fat.

no, what about bacteria or virus. Those are small things eating big things. The cycle of ecosystems to not work if only large things ate small things. It would be better to say, I think, Life is survival where everything needs to eat.
