People ask a question about something they are really stummped on.... or maybe they are really hurt, then everyone says pray about it. I don't think you can rely on prayer too much, even if you do believe in a god, or even anything. You need to help yourselves, not wait around for your god to save you.

You can try so many other things.
No, I don't believe in any god. I believe in myself.. I just don't understand your reasoning.

It sounds like most of you use "prayer" as your way to enslave "God".

BTW also, I was raised by a catholic family. I don't like their ways... I prefer Buddhism. Yes, they pray, but they are getting rid of attachments to help themselves in silence. I do pray, but it is not for personal gain, or to end wars or whatever most people pray for. And as far as believing, no I don't believe the Buddha exists, but whereever his teachings of wisdom came for, that is what I do appriciate.

People of many religions believe in the power of prayer. It gives them comfort and strength in their darkest hours.

The Bible tells us, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." "For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer."

Does this mean we should sit idly by and do nothing to help ourselves? No. We are blessed to have a reasoning mind and the power to make decisions that will be beneficial to our particular needs.

Peace be with you

I think most people mean pray for the knowledge and wisdom to know how to get help and that God will make it possible for you to get the help you need. Also, God really does work wonders in our lives thru prayer. God helps those who CANNOT help themselves.

Sometimes, praying, simply the act of praying, regardless of what Diety you're praying to, can help. It can make you feel better, like you're making an effort to change the situation. Some people chose not to believe. That's fine. :) But, some people chose to believe, and that's fine too. In the act of believing, there are some things that one just does... and sometimes one of those things is praying. ;)

Neither do I, to be honest.

Maybe it's that 'god is the answer' stuff I keep hearing. But it's funny, because, if you don't get an answer, they say god wants you find it out on your own, but if you do get an answer, they say you've got to thank god for enlightening you. :d

Weeeird.

We should pray in all circumstances. God will show us how to go on. Life of Jesus was not that easy either.
