Hi everyone just wondering how I file this year. I'm married with 1 child, and I only made about YTd Gross income was $20989.07 so far and my husband did not work that much during the year maybe only for 2-weeks only making maybe $700.00 total, so do I claim married and head of household?

Head of household is only applicable to single people with dependents......like a single mother.

If you are married, you either file as:
-married, filing jointly or
-married, filing separately

You can't be both married and head of household.

edit: in most cases, it is best to file married, filing jointly. Unless there is a lot of other information you didn't share in your question, this would be the best for you.

You would file as married, filing separately for reasons like: you are legally separated but not yet divorced or if one partner has a very unique financial situation.

Assuming that your husband lives with you, you can file as "Married-Filing Jointly" or "Married-Filing Separately".

In your situation, jointly would be better.

Generally MFJ gives you the highest refund.

You aren't eligible to file HOH. So your only choices are MFJ and MFS. MFS would not get any EIC.
