Well, not every guy here is like your husband. Some people pay very close attention to politics, current events, and news, and some do not. Sounds like he worries to much. I pay attention to politics, but I don't let it make me mad or stressed out.

As far as having a large military......yes, it makes me feel secure, but our government/military is also what is making us look like the bad guys all around the world, and getting us into trouble by getting into too many foreign affairs.
The drug problems in this country has been going on for a long time and people do drugs for all kinds of stupid reasons.....not just because their stresses about politics or having particular strong views on something.
The truth is that everyone is different here......everyone comes from a different cultural background with different views on different things, so you really can't fairly judge a whole country of people as being just like your husband, but I can see how you might have formed that opinion.
Have a good day.

To be intensely political is a healthy sign. It shows one is engaged in global matters that affect one's life. The key, however is to be well-informed and think critically. If you don't do that, you will become a liberal LOL.

Military power is an asset to any nation. It is however, an expensive asset to maintain. More is better if you can afford it. If you are like North Korea and have a relatively huge military, but no economy to pay for it, you will sink under your own weight.

Defense spending in the U.S. is approximately 3.5% of the GDP. This is a very low figure, perhaps the lowest in decades, and yet we have an extremely large and sophistocated military.

I feel secure in knowing that, not only is our military strong, but that our economy is easily able to support it.

It has nothing to do with drugs (which are a problem ALL over the world) or the need to dominate like sooooo many people outside the US think... Why does this have to be a problem just because it might be different from you?

We LIKE to take active roles in the US because we understand the sacrifices that have been made for our own "American Dream"...

It's a pleasure, not a duty or a chore.

We're the Superpower right now. That's cool with some, and not cool with others.

Our military spending is way more than the entire rest of the world combined. You can either say that that;s disgusting, or you can say that's par for the course for the Superpower.

As for making us feel safe, I dunno. We said that there were weapons in Iraq that were dangerous. We, and others, never found them. So probably not. Our army is huge, but the size of ones army never makes it respected. Only feared. That's where we are right now. No respect, but fear of us.

You know, when you are the big guy on the block, everyone is always chipping at you. To see if they can hurt you, so that they will feel big.

The government's MAIN job is to maintain a military to keep out aggressors. To not do so is to stick your head in the sand.

America's form of government has created the greatest freedom and best hope for prosperity for the greatest number of people of any society ever in the history of the planet. But still, our film industry sucks!

There's two ways to enslave a nation: one is by sword, the other is by debt.

Frankly, I feel very blessed to live in a country like the United States that has a strong military presence to protect and preserve those freedoms that we Americans treasure so dearly - freedoms that most other countries in the rest of the world do not have.

Secure. And Bush's plan to reduce our nuclear stockpile by 50% is giving me the willies! I like living in a country that is not likely to be attacked or invaded by any other country; and since the history of the world is replete with examples of both, I'm glad to live in the good, ol' USA.

Well it depends, having a large military doesn't necessarily mean you are secure. It also has to be well organize. It is nice to give the military power so they are not useless bums wasting money, but not to give them to much power or it will become militaristic country.
