Recycling is a good thing but, I am not really sure it helps prevent global warming it actually takes allot of energy to recycle. Consuming less is the best thing you can do. This means less energy at home, less gas in your car and buying less stuff too. Look for things that use less packaging. Not only is all that packaging wasteful but, you are paying more money for something you are throwing away which makes no sense. It is far better for the environment to re-use something multiple times or not buy it in the first place.

AS a citizen encourage others to reduce the thrat of global warming.
1 reduce the carbon, recyle what can, and reuse.
2 use those light bulbs that have mercury in them,
3 when in the grocery store get plastic or paper bags from home and use them,
4 ride your bike or a bus,
5 plant a tree,
6 encourage solar pannels and wind farms,
7 when drinking sodas or juice get the aluminum ones (they easier to make in the recyling factory)
8 use towels instead of paper towels.
there are children in the world angry at the u.s. because we as a country are not doing anything. it going to the lives of affect the children not adults.
9dont use anything that has cfc in it or (atleast reduce the use) ex:aerosole spray cans air conditioning.
10 turn off your lights( for buring coal as energy is bad).
11 unplug unused chargers.
12 air dry your clothes
13 when dry cleaning use eco-friendly dry cleaning

That's an example of how environmentalists are the cause of the problem. These little symbolic gestures like changing light bulbs and adjusting thermostats and eating locally grown vegetables draw attention away from big industrial users of electric power which is mostly derived from burning fossil fuel instead of fissionable nuclear fuels. Which is why I'm suspicious of the entire greenie movement, the net result of which is drawing attention to the individual do-gooder instead of solving a major problem.

A lot. Look at what you drive if you have public transportation available and what you can do at home to reduce energy. Switch to CFL lights. Go solar if you can. But try and elect local representation that understands the risks and will work in conjunction with business and government to instill positive change.

Conserve energy. Buy green energy. Install solar panels on your roof. Drive a fuel efficient car. Buy local products that were not transported long distances from the source to you by CO2 emitting trucks, trains and ships.

You can start thinking locally by driving less and recycling more. You should only buy as many products that you really need. You can borrow books at the library rather than buy books. You can buy only clothes when they need to be replaced. You can lower the thermostat in the winter and increase it in the summer.

Go join an Environmentalist group!
They will give you dumb placards to carry and hateful slogans to shout and 'train' you to hate the free enterprise system - especially Bush.
Then you will 'FEEL' like you matter.
Seriously you should check them out to understand how much HATE there is in the World.
