I'm sure you are a very sweet kid and you still see things in black and white -- but in real life, there are shades of gray everywhere. For each illegal alien we allow to stay in this country, a legal immigrant is denied entry. Every person who comes across the border illegally is stealing from some from Nigeria or South Africa or Indonesia or Korea or anywhere else. Our immigration policy is written in an attempt to be fair to everyone in the world. Is it fair to allow some to jump in front of people who have waited years to come here?
Legal aliens are tested for communicable diseases and submit to background checks so that we can make sure they won't spread diseases (such as leprosy or malaria or tuberculosis or HIV) that they may not even know that they have. We can also make sure that they really want to come here for the right reasons and not to cause trouble or to escape the law in their own country. Illegal aliens go through none of that and as a result diseases that were previously eradicated in the US are now back with a vengeance. Criminals come over the border, sometimes just to commit crimes and sometimes to escape justice in their own countries.
Our social services are being heavily taxed by illegal aliens. The state of California, if it were a country by itself, would have the 10th richest economy in the world YET, due to the many illegal aliens there and their needs, California is now facing a $14 billion budget crisis. $14 BILLION! That amount is incredible.
In an ideal world, everyone could do exactly as they please about anything and they would never break laws or hurt other people, but they DO hurt other people. My brother was killed by an illegal alien who was driving drunk. He had no license and he had no insurance. He was arrested and bailed out. He then disappeared. He is probably now in another state with a new identity driving drunk without a license OR insurance. I am helping to raise my 2 nephews who no longer have a father.
Are we Americans who insist on fairness to our LEGAL immigrants and their rights, rather than those who steal those rights from them, and who simply want people to respect and obey our laws truly cruel? I don't think so. Instead, I think we are making a hard decision...a fair decision. Justice should be equal for everyone...when a law is broken, those who break them must face that justice. It's harsh sometimes, but it can't be emotionally driven.
I know that much of this is hard to understand at your age, but try to keep an open mind on the issue and see it from all sides. Remember that there are NO victimless crimes and when an illegal alien enters the country, others suffer --- victims of immigration quotas that have to be cut, victims of identity theft, victims of crime committed by illegal aliens, victims of fraud, victims hospital closures, victims of tax shortfalls, victims of overcrowded schools and underfunded programs. Illegal aliens deserve NO rights. Rights belong to the citizens and the legal immigrants who were granted them with a visa.

Like one of the guys said about1.2 million immigrants legally enter the country on visas & permits every year, more than pretty much the rest of the nations in the world combine, well then MOST illegal Immigrants, about 50% according to ICE, overstayed their permits becoming illegal the other half of all ilegal immigrants sneak into our country not just the MEX/USA also CANADA/USA and sea ports, the only way to end this is to REFORM our immigration system. Why some immigrants don't apply for a permit and just sneak in, well thats BECAUSE the process to enter the USA is much to long and expensive & sometimes they don't qualify to enter the USA. Thats why and amnesty is not an answer we need a REFORMATION of our system to take those who can't live in the USA for many reasons out of here, and to let those who overstayed their visas to integrate into our system, so they can all of their taxes not just the ones from GOODS and SERVICES. Take France and Spain for example they ended with their illegal immigrant, problem in just one year, HOW?? They actually sat down and worked toguether to create a new immigration system, no border around their shores was need it to keep the Africans aways just a reform.

They can get an education, learn all that is needed to pass the citizenship and legally be an american citizen. They are human and have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. There are a lot of illegal immigrants in the USA because no one helps them get an education and become citizens. If you don't want criminals in this country you need to befriend them and help them get an education instead of calling them criminals and trying to kick them out. Both of my parents came illegally and after 7 years became citizens because they got an education. The last thing any of you racist people should do is hate them for trying to get a better life. There are too many of them to kick out now. And for those of you that are gonna say that they are taking our jobs: go and clean sewers, be a maid, and cut lawns. Tell me that these are jobs that you guys are DYING to have. If you had any bit of sense in your little minds you would get an education and work somewhere better then one of these jobs. If anything, i highly doubt that there aren't open positions in any of those jobs. Immigrants work there because it is easy to get a job and there are always openings. But to answer your question more thoroughly, an illegal immigrant can become a legal citizen in 7 years with the proper education needed to pass the citizenship test. And most colleges accept you whether your a citizen or not. Once you are a citizen, you will have a social security number and be able to obtain a drivers license.

WOW.. this is such a loaded debate... and my answer will be just as loaded..
I don't think anyone here illegally should be allowed ANY rights!! They are here illegally!! hello!!!
Yes there is a way to obtain legal status, I think anyone from another country here should have to obtain legal status within a reasonable amount of time (6months) to have government assistance of any kind, at the end of 6 months, go back to your own country if you can't do it the legal way, don't expect MY tax dollars to continue to support you if you can't say you are a US citizen (well even if you are.. but that's another debate)
USofA was founded on people coming to the US and gaining citizenship from other countries, however they did it the right way, they learned the language, they learned the history, they kept their heritage, but became a CITIZEN.. they didn't say oh, give me US rights, but I am still a Mexican..sorry first example coming to mind.. yes you can be FROM Mexico, but you are now an AMERICAN, you wanted the US citizenship, fly the US flag first!!!..
I'll stop now.. but my point is out there, it is OK to come and want a better life in the US than you can get in China, or Mexico or France or anywhere.. but follow the rules, learn the language and history, and stand by your choice of being an American!!!!!

"i think its really unfair that america is so cruel to illegal immigrants."
What is unfair about it? We have laws for a reason. America every year takes more LEGAL immigrants than any other nation. So if America is "unfair" what are all the other nations?
"i mean if there werent any, none of us would be here!"
Well I don't know about you but I would be here and so would all of my family back about 300 years.
Are you saying that your parents were illegal immigrants?
The fact is most Americans today are NATIVE Born. The old "we are a nation of immigrants is just plain crap". How far back do you want to turn the clock? Garden of Eden? Times change. You just can't arbitrarily say that if immigration was once good for America , it will always have to be good and America will have to just accept anyone that wants to come.
Most pro illegals want to turn back the clock to allow illegal immigration then fast forward to the present when their are a plethora of welfare benefits. They want the best of both worlds.
The most important thing you can learn is to think for yourself. If you have a pro-illegal/liberal teacher you are only getting one side of the story. Do your own research on the real costs of illegal immigration. Watch Lou Dobbs.

I once worked with a woman from Mexico. During a heated debate (this happened over 10 years ago) she stated " Us Mexicans will one day take over the United States and run it OUR way! I laughed in her face. I'm not laughing anymore. By the way she had been in the U.S. for over 20 years and still was not a LEGAL citizen. So you feel sorry for the illegal because they don't have the rights that we do? Go ask your Grandparents how they feel about The Social Security fiasco and ask them how they are getting along financially. Then go ask an Illegal! They love our government. The get financial, medical, educational and English as A SECOND language assistance. If we took all the money our government spent on the ILLEGALS and gave it to the ELDERLY of this nation then we wouldn't have to worry about Social Security. I would rather give my tax money to someone that FOUGHT to make this nation great than to someone that wants to sponge off of our backs. You Feel sorry for the illegals? Why don't you take a trip way down south to Mexico and see what they have done to their own country. If they Can start a revolution here tan they can go back to Mexico and clean up their own stinking mess. I hope that I am Dead before a person from Mexico (dual citizenship) gets elected for any government position.

I am not sure I believe that there are no natural Americans or Americans that are not immigrants. However back when our forefathers came here it was not against the law to be here without papers the land was not populated. In needing to control a overflowing growth country laws were made. I think that if you come here without the proper documentation then you are a criminal and therefore you should be punished. If I went to any other country and tried to just live there and take advantage of their programs I would get the boot and prob jailed or even death!!!

illegal aliens can LEGALLY secure employment, under special loopholes created by the federal govenrment. The Immigration Reform Control Act of 1986 was created to make it unlawful to hire illegals. Secretly, elected officials who passed this law were in support of helping illegals secure jobs over Americans. The law required job applicants to produce documents to prove their legal right to work in the USA. The law DID NOT require employers to verify / authenticate these documents. This means FAKE SOCIAL SECURITY CARDS, FAKE BIRTH CERTIFICATES, & FAKE IDENTIFICATION CARDS are legally acceptable forms of documents. The law created a thriving black market economy for (authentic looking) fraudulent documents. A set of fake documents sell for around $800, which is a sold by document counterfeiters. They're part of the multi-million dollar underground trade operated by organized crime. So illegals are not totally helpless, as you're textbook might lead you to believe.
Had you seen the movie "Back to School" (Rodney Dangerfield-1986). There's a scene in the movie, where the professor was lecturing on procedures to acquire land, gather documents, then begin construction. Rodney interrupts the professor to object on what the textbook was explaining. Rodney argues that in THE REAL WORLD, the process of securing documents involve giving monetary bribes to public officials and inspectors. The professor interrupts Rodney, to say that this is a school of learning, and we don't discuss inappropriate methods of doing business.
The point of what I'm saying is, theres a very big difference between what your textbooks say, and what really happens in THE REAL WORLD. Don't accept everything you read in your textbooks as Gospel truth. IRCA-1986 was passed because people believed senators and congress members can be trusted; and they would never accept bribes (political contributions) from special interest groups. 20 years after IRCA was passed, we as a society, are paying a heavy price for blindly trusting our elected officials. An election is coming up, and sadly, we're about to allow history to repeat itself.

Opening our borders to all who want to come here would destroy our nation.
Maybe you should ask yourself why these people are so willing to leave the nations of their birth and risk so much to come to the U.S.?
If you bothered to ask yourself that question, and look for the answer, you will find that most people are treated more cruelly in their homelands, even illegals, than they are treated here in the U.S..
The U.S. can not absorb all the refugees of the world, and it would be foolish for us to try. Such an attempt would destroy us as a nation, and then there would be no place in the world for people to find opportunity once all the developed nations were over ran by refugees, many of whom are nothing less than passive aggressors who seek to take control of our countries.
You also need to recognize that the first settlers to the U.S. did not arrive in the land of milk and honey, they arrived to a wilderness where the odds of survival were low, and extremely harsh conditions had to be overcame. Not everyone was clamoring to come to the U.S. in those days. Spain was conquering the new world as fast as they could, brutally enslaving the people, and at the same time trying to conquer Britain, and establish dominance in Europe through the Catholic church. Many illegal immigrants are the descendants of these Spanish conquistadors, and have no greater claim to the Americas than anyone else.
The U.S. is the place where most of the people in the world want to go, because the people who settled and established the U.S. did such an amazing job of creating this land of opportunity. The U.S. pioneers deserve a great deal of credit for their amazing accomplishments. The people of the U.S. have the right to control who can or can not enter the U.S., like all other nations do, just as you have the right to say who can or can not enter your house.
I get so tired of people claiming that the people of the U.S. are so cruel, when we treat people far better than they get treated else where around the globe.
