when someone on the street approaches them and asks them if they know what the "reason" for the season is?

it seems to be a common knowledge among non-believers, the history of christmas. but christians dont seem to know this history.

so what is your reaction when they try to educate you on what christmas is...?

(i mean serious reaction - what do you really do?)

I'm Christian, and I cant stand listening to that malarkey of how Jesus is the reason for the season. I educated myself, and I know full well of the pagan holidays that came long before the birth of Christ. So even I laugh under my breath when the try to "educate me" on the reason for the season.

Chuckle or give feedback, depending on how much of a rush I am in. Christians do not know the history of this season nor the history of their religion and the fact (yes FACT) that is has was a whole bunch of other religions put together to make Christianity. Nothing, including Jesus is a new thing in religion. Christianity is the Frankenstein of religions, just different parts put together that do not really fit.

Since it has never happened to me, this is speculation. But I know enough about the myths and facts of Christmas to be able to carry on an intelligent conversation. When queried about specifics of the bible by people at the door, I point out the obvious errors in it, and eventually they go away.

I always just say "Yes, I know. The reason for the season is the angle of relationship between the Sun and Earth. As that angle increases, we experience colder weather, even though we are actually passing closer to the Sun."

Somewhere in there they usually lose interest.

It depends. If someone accosts me on the street, I usually pretend not to realize that they are addressing me. If they manage to stop me, then my reaction depends on their attitude. If they are polite I nod my head, and when they are done talking, I leave. If they are being obnoxiously Christian, I will tell them, "I don't care," and leave.

I can't remember anyone ever asking me anything like that since I graduated from high school. Most people (thankfully!) allow me to mind my own business. They probably just want me to keep buying them presents.

I tend to zone out or end the conversation because I already know.

I laugh under my breathe, but I usually just keep walking and say have a good day.

I make them sorry they ever said a word to me.

But I do it very politely. It still doesn't stop them from getting visibly angry, of course.
