Absolutely, though my family is very accepting. We're quite multicultural and my mother loves all of her grandchildren of different backgrounds.

This is a hard one. It would be difficult to choose here, because -obviously- you're trying to decide between the people you've known and loved your entire life and you life-mate. The thing to consider here is the future: if you defy your family and marry then it's going to cause an uproar and the gap might never be patched. That alone would be the cause of bitterness and much regret later in life, not to mention all the grief when children arrive on the scene. I believe I would try talking with my family, try to make them understand why I love my would-be spouse and see if a compromise might be reached.

the fact that it concerns you indicates that you care very much for you family; if they care for YOU equally they could not withhold approval of someone you love. It's a two way street and both parties have to travel the entire road, even if one has to make the journey first.

Not at all. Others may come along, but you only get one family. Your parents took care of you when you couldn't take care of yourself, and you owe it to them to do the best you can in everything.
