YES, It is a very unique product and is worth the price. People who don't enjoy craft beers or those who just drink beer for the buzz are better off spending their money on a cheap case of domestic and chugging away. This product is meant to be consumed in small amounts (1-2 oz at a time) a sip at a time.
Calling it a "beer" is something of a technicallity, it does not resemble beer very much. It is made from malted barley, hops, and yeast which makes it a beer but it is served room temperature and is not carbonated. It also has a high alcohol content unheard of in typical beer.
When it hits your mouth it has a very smooth warm feeling with hints of caramel and maple. There is no astringent-type sensation when you swallow it.
If you can get a hold of a bottle for $150 (retail price) you should buy it. eBay has listings for about $250 for the 2007 edition (released in Oct).
I wouldn't recomend buying it as a "collectible" decanter. If you have a special occasion coming up with people who might enjoy a special treat they will talk about for years then buy it and enjoy!
PS if anyone knows of retail locations in the twin cities area with Utopias in stock, post a reply. I can also use another bottle!!!!

If you are rich $150 don't mean a whole lot. Beside is is brewed in such a way that calling it beer anymore is a stretch.
Even the Japanese cal their wine Saki which actually like Utopias starts off as a beer.
There is a lot of work, effort and time that goes into making this brew so yes it cost that much to produce.
And for the rest of us there are 6 packs of domestics.

If you're not a beer connoisseur or craft beer aficionado, I'd suggest you start small. You can get some great, great beers for much, much less than that.
Besides, Utopias tastes more like a brandy than it does a beer at its alcohol level; it might be nice to try, but probably not worth buying a whole bottle just to drink it.

I don't know, but it has been it will be interesting to find out. Sadly, I had my hands on a bottle at the beginning of the month but didn't have enough cash on me to purchase it. It goes without saying that by the time I returned it was sold out.
The funniest thing is is how the questions about Utopia have grown ever since they ran that commercial for it. Just a month ago not many people had even ever heard of it.

It is only worth what you can find someone to pay for it.
If it is hard to find, and I have one, and you want it bad enough, I guess you will have to pay. Is it worth it? Only you can decide if it is.
