"Teacup" is a fancy name for poorly bred runt of the litter riddled with future health problems from an irresponsible breeder sold for big bucks. There's no such thing as a "teacup", and any breeder who advertises their puppies as that shouldn't be supported. The Chihuahua has one standard. According to the AKC, a Chihuahua shouldn't exceed 6 pounds. If that's the case, wouldn't a 3 pound Chihuahua still be a regular Chihuahua because it's under 6 pounds? "Teacup" scams people out of their money. Just the fee for these over-priced runts is ridiculous. Think of the amount of money you'll be spending on vet bills because you failed to do your research and find a responsible breeder.

If you really want a Chihuahua for your daughter, please do as much research as you possibly can prior to getting the dog. Also, look into a Chihuahua rescue. There are tons of Chihuahuas out there looking for a good home. If you don't want to rescue, look for a RESPONSIBLE and reputable breeder. This breeder should show their dogs, have their breeding dogs evaluated for genetic and health problems, be able to provide you with their scores (OFA, CERF, PennHip, etc.), be able to tell you why they chose to breed those particular dogs, be able to tell you what those dogs have to contribute to the breed, provide a copy of their pedigree if you ask, give you registration papers when you get the puppy, and tell you why they're breeding. They should also have a guarantee stating that if you ever can't keep the puppy, you first contact them before rehoming the puppy, the puppy is guaranteed free of genetic defects for at least 2 years, and they require you to spay and neuter if the dog is not intended for breeding.

There are so many irresponsible backyard breeders out there. It's up to you to learn as much as you possibly can. You shouldn't expect to find a breeder and get the dog the same day. No good breeder would ever let that happen. They screen homes very carefully.

When you find a responsible breeder breeding for all the right reasons, you'll be extremely happy with your choice. Chihuahuas can be wonderful dogs. Good luck :)

First off, a Chihuahua is a Chihuahua. There is no such thing as a "toy" or "teacup" size. The "teacups" and "toys" are the runts of the litter that are the most prone to health problems. Breeders will label the really small puppies "teacups" and "toys" to try and get an unsuspsecting person to buy them. If your daughter wants a Chihuahua, you can get her one from an animal shelter or a RESPONSIBLE breeder. I recommend reading books on how to care for Chihuahuas. I have some magazines and books on how to care for them and they have proved to be very helpful, full of lots of useful information.

Define teacup.
It is an adjective that means small. It is better to have a dog at least 3+ pounds just for health reasons. If you mean a teacup at four pounds then yes, they are great. If you mean a one pound dog, then I wouldn't suggest it. Most people who use the word mean a dog under four pounds.
I have a little merle chihuahua that is about three and a half pounds who is just fine, but I wouldn't want one smaller. If they do happen to get sick, they have very little reserves to draw from, so they are more likely to die than a larger chihuahua would be.
My spotted merle is on the left. She is under 4lbs

Good luck with your dog search. I hope you find what you want.

I wouldn't get a teacup chihuahua because well there is no such thing as a teacup, they are just runts that have many health problems. They don't even live full lifes. I would just get her a regular chihuahua either way its going to be small.

a number of the tiny ones purely don't have tooth progression yet to chew the dry foodstuff. one element you need to verify is that the foodstuff is small bites. the enormous bites are lots too enormous for their tiny tooth. additionally fairly some breeders who declare to reproduce "teacup" chihuahuas will sell you a 6 week old doggy and inform you it quite is 8 weeks old. proceed to feed the canned foodstuff yet pass away the kibble out each and every of the time. whilst it quite is waiting, it is going to consume the dry. contained meanwhile you will ought to handle comfortable stool. savor that new toddler! additionally could be on doggy foodstuff no longer person foodstuff. Did the breeder inform you what the doggy grow to be eating?

It would help if they existed.

Chihuahuas come in one size. 6lbs or smaller. Therefore there is no such thing as teacup dogs.

Chihuahuas are not good dogs for kids, and a 12 year old cannot be responsible for a dog.

"Teacup" anything are horribly inbred animals that end up having more problems then they are worth. If your daughter wants a Chi look into buying her a normal one from a reputable breeder or adopting one from a shelter.
