I think that is correct PB that because of the occupation the Arabs and Israelis did not want to play together.

Their are questions if Israel meets the Copenhagen Criteria for EU membership. Several years ago Morocco applied to the EU and was flatly rejected.

On the Israeli side the vast majority of Israelis are supportive of the concept of EU membership.

No i dont think Israel will ever become a fullblown member of the EU, maybe Israel will one day come into some treaties with Europe in regards to travel and shipments of goods.

If Israel decides to get a more relationship with Europe they will probably have a similar relationship as Norway has with the EU, Norway isnt an EU member (is it sweden?) yet they have a very extensive relationship with the EU and i think they are also part of the Shengen zone (aka free travel zone) even though they are not a member.

Israel will probably have limited interaction with the EU but never will be a member, there are just to many issues at hand not makingt his possible.

Im sure you can imagine a few.

I think Israel would both be willing to join and the EU willing to accept. It makes sense, as culturally they are very similar. Israel is clearly much more European than Middle Eastern as defined by the world today, so it only make sense to connect in that direction. Israel may not technically be in Europe, but those distinctions are arbitrary anyway; Israel is on the Mediteranean after all, and no so distant from Italy or Greece. It seems to make sense on many levels.
At the same time, Europe has classicly displayed a bias against Israel and Jews, and it isn't so clear that such a bias can be overcome. I guess I'm just cautiously optimistic. Either way though, Israel will not adopt the Euro.

That would be the best thing for Israelis and Palestinians too.
One of the main reasons why a similar case -Turkey has not been admitted so far is her low score in the human rights record.
Can Israel fulfill that demand?
I am not an expert on that but I presume not.
Anyways Israel definitely depends on the $US billions therefore I don't think this will ever happen.
I sure hope so it will someday, though!

Israel play in UEFA not the EU, Many UEFA countries are within the EU but UEFA is geographical and not political. The EU is a purely political entity.

Technically Israel should play in the AFC - the Asian Football Confederation but all the Arab countries opposed it. However, some South Amrica countries play in CONCACAF - the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football rather than CONMEBOL - the Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol.

Lol... Thanks; I needed a laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Turkey is justified in its desire to join the EU, but not Israel. I do not think Israel would want to join the EU, since Europeans are not known to be pro-Israel or pro-Jewish, for that matter....
I think the only reason Israel is playing EU teams is because local (meaning Arab) teams would not play against Israel, which is unfortunate....
If we can play together, then we can laugh together and talk together and like each other and negotiate with each other....
-and now I shall break out into song:
Koombaya...
lol
kidding....

I honestly don't know :)

Technically, of course, it doesn't make sense for Israel to join as she is not in Europe. I don't know whether she'd want to, I can perceive both advantages and disadvantages.

I think - someone correct me please if I am wrong - that Israel only plays football in the EU because none of the Arab countries would play with her.

ULTRANATIONAL - hey, watch it, I'm in Europe! :)

HOPELESS - it can't just be because of the 'occupation' because the Arab countries refused to recognise Israel as far back as 1948, the minute Partition was proposed, before there WERE any Palestinian Arab refugees.

I sure hope not. Palestine/Israel is NOT Europe, it's the Middle-East.....more accurately, the Near East or South-West Asia.

Shalom.
