You'll need either the discs or install programs for this software. You cannot copy software that has been installed from one computer to another.

Get the Easy Transfer Cable, which is by far the easiest method of doing this task. You can locate one at an electronics store or an Online store. here is a link to show you what I mean:
http://www.provantage.com/belkin-f5u258~7BELC16Y.htm
If you are not tranfering from XP to Vista there are cables which transfer between two XPs, too, etc. These cables make it extremely simple.
If you can't get a cable such as this, you can use other methods, such as using an existing network connection, DVDs, CDs, thumb drives, even floppys, (way out of style and hold extremely little, just added as an example).
Here is a link to get you started:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/9e2347fc-43af-4ff9-8e33-0002b9d449561033.mspx
Now, this is a Vista guide, but you can easily apply it to XP, or go to the Windows XP Help and How-to, which is only a few clicks away in reality.
Good luck and much success in transfering you data.
*edit* Yes, you can transfer programs from one hard drive to another. Now, you may see older versions in the list of what programs can be copied, and of course Microsoft programs fill the list more than others, but in reality, the version doesn't matter, as the tranfer can deal with any on the list, even newer versions.
For those that are not transferable, you will need either the installation disks, or download from the websites. No problem. When and if you do download a program from the net, download it to your desktop, and then either before or after you click to Run the program simply tranfer it to a thumb drive or disk for backup purposes. You can hold several programs on one disk, most programs leave lots of room on DVDs, as you can easily tell by the coloration of the lines.
