Have you ever met a mentally handicapped atheist? Generally speaking, most mentally handicapped people I've ever heard of do have faith in God.
But to answer your question, Jesus told us that to whom much was given, much would be required, while to whom little was given, little would be required.
In other words, God doesn't expect more from you than what is within your abilities.
God has never created anyone (or anything) that is unable to worship and serve him. I don't know as if you've noticed, but even atheists often "serve him"...whether they intended to or not?
How so, you ask? A great example is right in this forum...in the way many atheists challenge believers to delve deeper into their faith to answer the really hard questions.
I know that, since I've been in these online forums, my faith has deepened and grown, and I have become more knowledgeable than I ever would have suspected.
I am grateful for that....

I personally believe that anyone incapable of understanding about God goes to heaven...that also includes small children. But not elderly people who rejected Christ earlier in life. God does create us to worship Him and serve Him. First of all, we have mental illness because of sin. If sin had not entered the world we would all still be perfect. But also, who am I to judge what worship looks like. That mentally ill person could be worshipping God in ways I will never know or understand. Or God maybe using that persons life to influence others for Him.

Peace.....God has a special love for these children/adults - the "poor" does not always refer to finances or material things, but the downtrodden and suffering. These people have an innocence about them that only God understands in a divine way. If God puts a handicapped person in our path, then it is up to us to discern what God is asking from us in terms of learning, teaching, helping and understanding. I believe that a handicapped person IS serving God in the way God wants - it may not be exactly what we perceive as serving in relationship to our own serving, but He knows best and expects more from the unhandicapped during these situations, not them. Blessings, "orthros"

Even a rock can serve God. Dosn't mean the rock has to understand God or worship God.
God loves the children so it says many times over and like any parent you see the flaws and accept them and deal with them the best way you can. None of us truely understands God, we are all children in his eyes, so mentally challenged people would not be singled out to burn because they can not grasp the concept of God.
God gives us the obsticles to overcome and test us. The child you speak of may be a test for the parents, and all the people brought into their lives. The child is not held responsible by God, the actions of the parents would be though.

1. Anyone of diminished capacity will get into Heaven. The Bible plainly states it. 2. God created Adam/Eve and let them take it from there. God allows the laws of nature to occur. Even if someone is handicapped in some way. They may be able to worship/praise God. If not, they are still loved/valued by God.

excellent questions. I know people who are related to mentally deficient people. I consider them to be on the same level as a baby...they are completely innocent.
There is nothing in the bible concerning mentally handicapped but one wonders if there is anything written in the Apocrypha which means hidden. Christians published them but they were not considered canonical and never really gained acceptance by the Jewish community.

Excellent questions.
I would have to say for the record, I don't fully know. That is why he is God and I am not.
My opinion is that since they lack the ability to perceive right and wrong, then they can't intentionally sin against God. I would think they would be treated as infants and grace is extended to them. But let me emphasize this is complete speculation on my part.
To your second question, we were indeed created to worship the Lord. But as soon as sin entered the world through our disobedience everything in nature was effected. (Genesis 3)
I believe that this explains the presence of the mentally handicapped. Over-simply stated, they are a product of a sin filled world. Let me reiterate that I am not saying it is their fault that they are in the state they are in. Rather the effects of sin in our world has produced a situation of which they are a victim.

Everyone is created with a purpose, even if you can't see it. Do you know anyone who is mentally handicapped? Usually they are the most innocent and loving of us all. I doubt they even truly sin, since by definition to sin you must have full knowledge of the act and its consequences. So of course they'd go to heaven.

God deals with them deep internally without you or me getting an answer of the final outcome. I'm sure we will find people in heaven that were mentally handicapped persons when they lived on Earth, and others end up in hell because choosed to reject God's offer.
